Well, I've been planning this project long enough... So now that I've actually started work I figure a WIP thread is in order. Since the hood will be dependent on it, the mask/helmet seems to be a good piece to start with. I mocked up a 3D model of the helmet base and made a Pepakura version to use as a base to sculpt/shape. The chin isn't bad, but I'll have a lot of work with the cheeks and forehead.
I have a pretty good idea for the soft parts and will start on the muslin mockup once the helmet is in the right shape. The saber is huge, but I have that designed and think it'll be a fun build.
I don't expect progress will be terribly fast, but I'd really like to have this together by the end of the year... Though, I'm not sure how realistic that is. _________________

I got two coats of resin on the helmet so far, but still need to lay the fiberglass before I do any more shaping. I haven't had too much time to put into this lately. I hope to soon, but it could realistically be after Thanksgiving before I have much time (too many Christmas decorations ). _________________

This should be not nearly as much work as epoxying, fiberglassing, bonding and sanding so it should be done in the next few days.

Was this for your Jedi General WIP thread? I don't recall shoulder armor for the Temple Guard. Looks good though! _________________

I finally had some time to work on this some more. I cut part of the back open so that I could try it on. There's not a lot of extra room, but it fits. I marked the eyes where I thought they should go based on my scaled reference image, and amazingly they're in just the right spot. I have a fairly narrow vertical field of view, but that was expected.
I decided to skip the fiberglass and just coat the helmet in foam. After a few hours of carving, I have a shape that feels pretty close to the images. I need to fill some gaps where to foam wasn't uniform, which includes a good chunk of the chin.
Any input on the mask shape is appreciated since I've been staring at it for too long. I think some slight extension of the chin, and possibly forehead will get it just about right. I also may move the inside edge of the eye towards the center.

I agree that the eyes definitely need to be extended towards the center. Given that these guys are the direct defenders of the temple, a larger field of vision would be certainly necessary.
