Alright well here's me entirely without make up (I can already hear the screams from miles away)

Before:

After:

And here I am in my full beard'ed make up. I'm dressed as "Naked Snake" from Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater for anyone curious. Pardon the crap cell phone picture, but it's the only pic I had that was a close up. (I swear the photos weren't this large when I uploaded them. I hope they're not showing up super huge for anybody else.)

For that color, I actually ordered a lighter beard/mustache and dyed it using just a regular drug store bought permanent hair dye. It's something I suggest everyone does so they make sure they have the correct color. It originally ended up closer to a dark brown than I wanted, so I let it soak over night in a 1:2 mix of hydrogen peroxide and 90% rubbing alcohol in a Glad Ware container. Lightened up just enough to get that medium brown I wanted. I trimmed out everything a bit with thinning sheers to give it a little bit more natural/rough and tumble appearance.

The beard and mustache I'm wearing in those pics I got from Act One Costumes as a set. Quick shipping, an amazing selection, and good prices even with shipping costs. I paid less for this set than I did for the original beard I bought from a local costume shop, which I had to buy the mustache as separate pieces and couldn't even use (and, for someone like Obi-Wan or another character with a true, full beard, I suggest buying a set instead of trying to mix and match pieces. I did buy a separate, shorter mustache to wear with a different version of this character that doesn't connect to the beard, but that wasn't as much of a problem since it doesn't need to all blend).

The main reason I recommend them is because, the customer service at Act One was stellar. They even called me when they were concerned that it wouldn't arrive for the deadline I'd mentioned in my customer notes and adjusted the shipping so it would get there just as fast but cheaper. I've never had anyone do that before! I'm planning on sending them a 'Thank You' email now that I have some good pics of the completed make up.

Um... If there's any other question about my make up, ask away.

You are most welcome. I'm glad I was able to be of some help then. Smile

Also, I noticed someone mentioned knotting hair onto a mesh back. Look up information on Lace wigs and creating them. I believe the technique is called 'ventilating'?

I've seen some basic tutorials here, here, and here, but it's nothing I've tried to do before myself. I've been debating doing similar with several wigs of mine to create various characters' unique hair lines. as well as creating my own 'Tony Stark' goatee, like how RDJ's is in the movies.

That's about as helpful as I can be there.

I'm curious, with all the folks saying they get called Obi-Wan, does the same thing happen for women in Jedi costumes? I guess I'll find out soon enough on my own, but I'm still curious Smile

I haven't popped onto here for a while, and someone mentioned there had been more posts on the the thread.

I'm glad my information was so helpful, and I'm even more thrilled that Act One would work for other folks looking for Obi-Wan's beard. I know I've a couple new beard threads posted, so hopefully I can refer them here for help.

I get called Leia constantly with both of my jedi costumes. Especially the one with the high/low skirt. I don't even try to correct people any more, I just go with it. My costume with the high/low skirt has been dubbed the "EU Leia". I've also been called Obi-Wan several times, which really blows my mind. lol!

About a month ago, my son and I were invited to participate in a parade of gaming / sci fi characters. A security guard graciously let us in to the area we were suppose to prepare through a side entrance. Then he spoiled it all my saying " Good luck Luke " LOL Laughing I also got "Go Qui Gon "

At the end of the day, people dont always know your character, but they are always happy you are there, and that's good enough Wink
