So, I've tried using the method of attaching the frame to the back of the battle vest, but it doesn't hold quite the same way the movie backpack is shown.
Does anyone use a suspension system to support the backpack? I'm wondering if a support harness- similar to what some Boba Fett costumes wear- might work, too.

I had the same problem...
I tried so many different combinations and methods of attachment and all of them failed.
I got so frustrated that I was ready to throw the whole project into the pooper...the project was made even more difficult for me because I live alone and it is impossible to try to work with something on your back that you can't see nor reach...
so I would put something together....and when I did an event I would have my fellow troopers try to help me with seeing of said system would work...
I finally gave up and just attached normal backpack carry straps made out of 1" white strapping that gets hidden under the vest....
that has worked for me....
not a 100% accurate...
but it works...

Thanks for posting those images, Phyllis. This has been the most difficult part of the costume and I'm glad it's finally finished!
I used the Fett Jetpack harness system idea for mine, which is pretty similar to yours. Mine will be fitting under the jacket and vest, and the two velcro straps from the top will come out from the jacket (hidden by the vest) and connect to two carabiners along the middle bar of the boy scout frame. The vest has a large strap that will loop through the bottom of the frame (similar to yours) for extra support.
