PostPosted: Fri May 03, 2013 6:52 pm    Post subject: Jaina solo X-wing Pilot outfit Reply with quote

I had a look to te 17 pages of this topic, maybe I haven't got an eagle eye, but it seems there is no CRL for Jaina Solo in X-Wing pilot outfits.

I help a friend who is going to join us to make her costume, so I submit here the following CRL founded on standard X-wing pilot CRL, Jaina's pics and statues (and edited and modified after the LCJ answer to her validation) :

Jaina Solo X-Wing Pilot Costume Standards

Required Items:

1. Orange flightsuit with mandarin-style collar and pointed tab, code cylinder pocket on upper-middle left arm, rectangular pocket with a flap closure on upper-middle right arm, comm pad pocket on outside of left forearm above wrist, and thigh pockets (upper set required, lower set optional). No visible zippers or snaps.
2. Mid-calf black boots (Jack boots or engineer boots are acceptable. Leather pull-on style preferred with low heels. No laces. No ankle buckles (small buckle at top edge of boot allowable if covered by blousing). No non-black zippers. Any zipper closure must either be hidden or on the inside calf. No zippers on front or outside calf of boots. High-Calf boots are acceptable with sufficient blousing of the flighsuit legs.
3. Silver/grey leg flares in an olive drab or black leg-band holder. Maximum of 8 flares per holder. Flares should be approximately 4" long.
4. Light grey/silver grey ejection harness and web belt, all 2” wide.
5. White flak vest with accurate ribbing and clasps. Vest sizing should be proportional to the wearer.
6. Accurately sized grey chest box with accurate decoration (raised buttons (acrylic preferred, see the Pilot Forums for acceptable button color schemes), separated rocker switches, appropriate materialed greebles, pin stripes etc.). 1" - 1.75" diameter grey hose or aviation hose should attach at the left-bottom of the chestbox and connect to the suit in some screen-accurate manner (tucked up into the flak vest, attached to flightsuit, etc.). (Please note that Costumebase chestboxes will not pass the standards unmodified, however once slightly modified, they will meet standards.)
7. 3 Metallic silver Code Cylinders (Arm Tools) in left shoulder pocket. Cylinder heads showing should resemble accurate representations.
8. Black gauntlet-style gloves (flared leather or pleather preferred, cloth or rubber gloves will not meet standards).
9. Accurate Comm Pad (size, details, 3-dimensional, coloration, etc.) visible in the comm pad pocket.
10. Mi-lenght or long brown hairs (wig admitted)
11. light brown eyes (lens admitted)
12. Lightsaber hilt (not toy)
13. X-Wing helmet with character decoration. (#1 - Same paint job as Luke's but with no Rebel Birds (red and white paintjob) ; #2 - Purple stripes going down the Mohawk, no birds (purple and white paintjobs) ; #3 - (proposed statue) Luke's helmet.

Formal Requirements :
You must have at least one of the following items to be accepted:

1. Mini-flares on belt. A mix of filled and empty slots are okay.
3. Accurate belt buckle on web belt.

Optionnal :
1. If illuminated blade lightsaber the colour of the blade id purple (MR or hasbro FX Mace Windu's lightsaber is allowed)
2. white sleeveless tee-shirt (Bishoujo version)

PostPosted: Fri Jul 05, 2013 2:46 pm    Post subject: Updated Luke suggestion Reply with quote

Currently, I feel like the list is not specific enough, and it lists 'black' tabards as acceptable, when they are dark grey. I'm currently working on my second commission of ROTJ Luke, and I have been doing quite a bit of research into this costume.

My suggestion:

Episode VI - Return of the Jedi
characters' hair needs to be a "similar" style
to that of Luke Skywalkers'- no buzz cuts or beards also.

Luke Skywalker: Jabba's Palace / Sarlaac Pit

Required Items:

  1. Black long-sleeve shirt w/mandarin-type collar with fold-over bib on the right breast, folding from top center. Shirt should be wrist length and fitted to the body. Collar can have up to an inch of opening/separation at the front of the neck. Shirt should stop at waist or be tucked into pants. Shirt closure should be hidden. Matte material, non textured.
When worn with tabard and vest, bib should be closed and the corner hidden and fitted close to the chest under the vest.
  2. Black flat front tight-fitting pants with no visible pockets made with same or similar material to shirt. Matte material, non textured. Pants may be fitted at the ankle with elastic stirrups for ease of getting into boots and keeping the fabric flat.
  3. Dark grey vest w/scarf-style tabards and wide sash belt. Belt should not be wider than tabard. Vest should be made of either raw silk or another matte natural fiber such as cotton or wool. Vest does not have visible fasteners or closure device. Belt fastens in back with no visible devices such as buckles or snaps. Vest can be between Dark Grey and an off-black that is visibly lighter than the pants and shirt.
  4. Black equestrian-type knee-high boots, low heel. No buckles or tabs.
  5. Luke's ROTJ hero lightsaber hilt with or without a blade. Can be from a custom saber type shop or an FX saber, but must be recognizable as "Luke's" If bladed, must be green.

Optional:

  1. Brown hooded cloak, wool/wool blend, cotton or other natural fiber, should have a 'rough' look if possible. Cloak is unlined. Closure with between one and three sets of discreet black hook and eye sets, at the throat. Cloak is sleeveless and must be at or close to floor length. Hood should be deep enough to partially obscure face when worn up.
  2. Black leather belt with silver weathered octagonal buckle w/small back pouch. Back pouch should be unadorned or with single silver button/snap. Leather belt can be worn over tabard belt or without tabard and vest.
  3. Palace guard blaster
  4. Black leather glove on right hand only. Glove should be no longer than wrist length and otherwise unadorned - no buckles, zippers or decorative stitching.
  5. Shirt seaming - back of shirt with Princess style seams and center back seam. Back yoke across the shoulders.
  6. Pants seaming - While not required, pants can have a black 'stripe' stitched into the side of the leg, as this is sometimes visible in the movie.

PostPosted: Sat Jul 27, 2013 6:00 am    Post subject: Submitting standards for Winter's costume from Scoundrels Reply with quote

The costume I made has been approved for informal status as currently there is only one artist rendering of Winter in this outfit even though it is a full frontal image. Del Rey has come out with a set of bookmarks featuring the same drawing by the same artist. Don't know if that would count as a second source or not. If anyone comes across other renditions of her in this outfit please let me know. In the hopes that there will be future comics or something featuring her in this outfit I am now reposting the standards:

I would like to submit the following standards for Winter's outfit as shown on the cover of Scoundrels seen above. (For those of you that don't know who Winter is, she is a childhood friend of Leia's from Alderaan (off planet on a Rebel mission when it was destroyed) who has a photographic memory and is code named Targeter. She took care of the twins and protected Anakin Solo from being kidnapped. Winter prefers to use her computer skills over violence but will use blasters when absolutely necessary. Recently she married Tycho Celchu of Rogue Squadron. Her name comes from her extremely light almost white blond hair that she has had since childhood although she uses wigs especially when she is doubling for Leia. She is in several of the EU books as well as graphic novels. - I can provide specific references for her character if needed but as of now the only photo and description of this outfit is the cover jacket.)

I have two versions of the book cover art for this outfit in the resources as one is the actual jacket and one is the preview from the publisher which shows more of the boots. I think she would be a fringe character although she has served on the Republic provisional council at one time. There is only this one picture of this outfit but since it is the full front I am hoping it will be ok. I did email Timothy Zahn (the author) as I did not remember reading a description for this in the book and he sent me the following reply: "That outfit was created by the artist (possibly with input from the cover designer). Hopefully, that'll be good enough for the Legion."

Winter (Lineup outfit from Scoundrels by Timothy Zahn)

Required Items:

  1. Grey wrap tunic (suede-like or velvet) with crushed velvet grey (slightly darker than tunic body) sleeves open to top from elbow down Tunic is one piece (no attached skirt) and should fall about mid thigh. There are 2 slits in the tunic front . Tunic has 6 triangle diamond shape decorations on the front evenly spaced with two below bustline, two with top aligned at waist so bottoms show below tunic belt, and two in the bottom third of tunic. Sleeves are trimmed with braided grey trim. Tunic edge is trimmed with black band with 2 diamond wide lattice grey trim. Band stops at shoulder seam. Band is trimmed with same braided trim as sleeves on both edges and bottom of tunic is trimmed with same braided trim. Slits are blanket stitched with grey cord, embroidery thread (12 strands) or same yarn as used for lattice work on front. Inside edge of sleeve is blanket stitched with same thread as used for slits. Seam of top part of sleeve is on bottom of sleeve. Sleeve should fall at hand where fingers attach. An elastic casing is topstitched where top and bottom of sleeve attach (roughly at the elbow). Tunic wraps right over left. Fasteners may be used to keep tunic closed but they need to be hidden.
  2. Black Knee length pull on boots – flat with minimal heel (no higher than 1”) Zippers if needed should be on inside. No buckles or decorations. Pointed or round toes only. No Suede.
  3. Shiny Black leggings or tight pants – any pockets must be hidden by tunic
  4. Black suede like cloth belt with two leather like belt loops in front. The loops can be attached to the tunic or be part of a hidden black pouch behind the front belt. Belt is trimmed with a two diamond wide lattice made of the same material as the lattice trim on the front. Belt fastens in the back – fasteners should be hidden.
  5. Shiny Black long sleeve tight knit shirt with scoop neck (Leotard like is ok). There is a black rectangular type of U shape decorative trim on the shirt made of twisted black cord placed on the front about 2” below the scoop. The square of the U and at least 2” of the side lines need to be visible when the tunic is on. Sleeves should be pushed up to mid lower arm.
  6. Optional items: Hidden front belt pouch, hold out blaster hidden in sleeve, datapad, communicator, blaster – tucked in back of belt.

Formal Requirements:
You must have at least one of the following items to be accepted:

  1. Light blond hair bob hairstyle parted on side (no longer than shoulders and no shorter than bottom of jaw)
  2. White blond hair bob hairstyle parted on side (no longer than shoulders and no shorter than bottom of jaw)
  3. Dishwater Blond hair bob hairstyle parted on side (no longer than shoulders and no shorter than bottom of jaw)

Costume Resources:

  1. http://www.eucantina.net/wp-content/uploads/2012/06/Scoundrelsfull.jpg
  2. http://media-cache-ak3.pinimg.com/originals/1a/7c/14/1a7c14bbf66197a3ecd00b14d4f044db.jpg

Once the standards are ok, I will post how to make the lattice trim and diamond decorations on the wrap tunic. It is a basic chain stitch so pretty easy to do. If you are wondering how I got the detail for the description, I scanned the photo from the book into my computer at 600 mpi and then zoomed in to see how everything was put together and where.

Thanks! How would I go about doing a formal submission for this and the other Luke's, and what should I change on this one?

Thanks,

How about -

Jaina Solo X-Wing Pilot Costume Standards

Required Items:

1. X-Wing Pilot Costume described here with the following changes and additions:
a. Shoulder length brown hair (wig acceptable)
b. Light brown eyes (colored lenses acceptable)
c. Lightsaber as described in Jedi Costume Standards (Generic) described here EXCEPTION: No Double Bladed sabers are permitted with this costume.
d. REQUIRED: X-Wing helmet with your choice of the paint and marking combinations as described below (Choose one)
1. Same paint and markings as Luke "Red 5"
2. Same paint and markings as Luke "Red 5" but with no Rebel Birds (red and white paintjob)
3. Purple stripes on "Rams Horns", Yellow stripes on "Mohawk", no birds, "Sliced Onions", "V" markings, etc. (purple and white paintjobs)

Formal Requirements :
As the helmet is a REQUIRED item for this costume, you must have one of the other two items described in the X-Wing pilot standard to be accepted:

1. Mini-flares on belt. A mix of filled and empty slots are okay.
2. Accurate belt buckle on web belt.

Optionnal :
1. If illuminated, blade color is purple (MR or Hasbro FX Mace Windu's lightsaber is allowed)
2. White sleeveless tee-shirt (Bishoujo version)

Reference pics :

Source : Japanese cover of Enemy Lines I : Rebel Dream (find on wookiepedia) taken from here. CAUTION: Vest/Upper Harness as shown in this picture is not accurate. Refer to actual screen used items or X-Wing Pilot costume standards.

Source : Wookiepedia ; Star Wars Gamer 5 : The Crystal. CAUTION: Vest/Upper Harness, "Chestbox", belt, and buckle as shown in this picture are not accurate. Refer to actual screen used items or X-Wing Pilot costume standards.

The box of the Kotobukia's Bishoujo Statue Art. CAUTION: Vest/Upper Harness, "Chestbox", and Pockets on the coveralls as shown in this picture are not accurate. Refer to actual screen used items or X-Wing Pilot costume standards.

This way, the standard automatically stays current with any changes made to both the X-Wing Pilot and Jedi (Generic), without having to go back and rewrite this standard.

Since this costume is a slight variant of the X-Wing Pilot, the X-Wing standards should be applied, with the changes and exceptions listed.

The only thing I would change is the eye colour. I don't think any other standards specify eye colour, and due to medical reason some persons simply can't wear lenses.

I'm not a fan of contacts being required.....I can't wear them. I'm going to be starting an X-wing pilot soon, and had hoped to eventually update it to Jaina Solo, but if contacts are required, then I'll never be able to since I have blue eyes. Sad That makes me very sad, because I love Jaina! I could see the contacts being an optional item.

Last may I wrote and propose there a Jaina Solo CRL. I never had any feedback on it. Sad
I was expecting on it to become a LCJ. My CRL proposition is on this page few posts above. Please have also a look on it to build to definitive Jaina Solo's x-wing pilot CRL.

My suggested change was to delete the verbatim copy of the X-Wing standard and instead include by reference any items that have been defined in other standards (X-Wing Pilot and Jedi). Much easier to keep everything consistent. Update the X-Wing or Jedi standard, and it is automatically applied to this costume.

I would suggest this be used anyplace where a costume is basically the same but has a minor change (a different hat, shirt color, weapon, etc.).

As you can see, the available references 1) Contradict each other (Hairstyle, helmet markings) and 2) Do not match the actual screen used X-Wing costumes in several places.
