|
|
|
The intent of this visual guide is to help you see what others have done with regard to making Endor Commando costumes. It helps you see good examples of camo painting and the variety of pieces that qualify an Endor Commando costume.
If you save the photo to your computer, you can then manipulate the photo to get a closer view of things you might want to zero in on.
ENDOR COMMANDO COSTUME STANDARD:
Required Items:
Cargo style pants (commercial BDU in rip stop or twill is acceptable-no sewing modifications needed) spray painted in a camouflage pattern
A NOTE REGARDING CAMO FOR ALL PIECES CALLING FOR CAMOUFLAGE:
Suggested paint colors below are "Design Master Corp" paint designations, an equivalent is acceptable
- Moss Green (heavy)
- Holiday Green (light)
- Hunter Green (light)
- Basil (heavy...primary color)
- Bright Olive - (small accents)
A beige/tan/sand colored long sleeve t-shirt
Boots- “Desert” style combat or hiking boots. Canvas/Natural upper Target Color: “Sand” FS 33531/RAL 1011 “Brown Beige”; Molded sole, with thick “lug” tread. The sole continues up over the front ½”/12mm of the toe. The original “Sierra” brand boots are long out of production; however there are Israeli Scout Commando Boots that are very close in design and can be either purchased or used as a reference.
Gaiters - A tube of heavy Cotton/Natural fabric starting from the bridge of the foot (covering most of the laces) continuing up past the boot top to slightly below mid-calf. 5-8 sets of eyelets (depending on your measurements). No clear photos of the laces have been found yet; most likely surplus olive-green “para-cord” was used. Color: The originals appear to have been made from a tan or sand material, but were so heavily dyed and painted to appear used they look dark brown or olive when actually seen on screen.
Helmet consisting of an AN-H-15 cloth helmet (or replica) with a ribbed strip on the top, a replica rigid outer ring, and cloth bill
Olive Drab Belt with pouches
Short, light-colored leather work gloves
The following combinations are acceptable for formal for the upper torso in addition to the tan long sleeved shirt:
A camo painted trenchcoat - camo paint should be applied to a tan trenchcoat, if tan trenchcoat/lab coat can not be obtained, you will have to dye trenchcoat/labcoat tan first and then camo paint.
A camo painted snow jacket - camo paint must be applied to a tan base. Since snow jackets are by nature white in color, you must dye jacket tan first.
Accurate capped sleeve vest with slash pockets and padded applique on right upper chest.
Accurate capped sleeve vest with slash pockets and padded applique on right upper chest worn over a camo painted snow jacket.
Formal Requirements - choose one:
(Unless local laws prohibit or strongly discourage carrying anything that looks like a firearm)
1. E-11
2. DH-17
3. Endor rifle
Optional Items:
1. Web bandolier with replica accessories
2. Canvas military-style backpack-no nylon packs-screen accurate is two pocket pack.
3. Endor hardpack
4. Vest accessories such as rank badges and wrist comm.

First is they are too tall (thick). Since they're made from metal, you will need that skill set to modify them.
Best chance for a mod is to remove the height from the top. Cut it off to a better height, then cut a new top ring... and epoxy it in place. Proportions will still be a little wonky everywhere, but it get's it closer. (Sadly, the helmets they sell now are not as nice as the ones they sold just two years ago.) To get the proportions even closer you may need to cut the bottom off and reconstruct the bottom line silhouette and possibly the back vents as well.
A comparison between the CB helmet, and DW's helmet:
If you have the time and skills, it would be less work to make one from scratch using flowerpots... And look better. But DW offers the doughnut, assembled. Just trim to fit your head. I highly recommend DW's helmets... save your pennies and get one.

A reminder about the pants and coats:
These are Tan uniforms that have had some "field expedient" camouflage applied to them. To match the the films, do not cover the entire uniform with green paints. Leave at least 20% unpainted

I find the Alice 2 pocket impossible to find even with all the military surplus that is out in the world today. If you wanted to use ALICE would you have to cut off one of the pockets to make it two? Or could I use a Czech bag?

Everyone in my area uses the Czech bag:
We grabbed them when Sportsman's Guide had them in stock. At the time, it was the commonly accepted variant to use.

You can find them around, even Amazon...

Found a few places in Europe too just from using an image search. _________________ -David
