Hey Scruffy,

Thanks for the reticle patterns...could you share some info on how to use them? Do I just print them on plain paper, transparency, etc? Also, how did you create the "lens" effect? It really looks great, just like my MR Ep. V version.

I'll be following your thread closely. Very ambitious to take on all the sewing yourself also. Look forward to seeing your progress.

Thanks guys!

Does anyone know if Han's bellowed pockets on his vest are one or two pieces? I mean, a folded piece of fabric, or a front piece with a separate strip sewn to make the sides?

For the reticles, I printed them on transparency, with the orientation flipped. So the glossy side of the ink is the right side up.

My scope had already a 30mm crystal lens, that's I put the reticle behind. But you can easily get a 6-8" clear plastic globe from hobby lobby and cut the lens from it.

If you want the image to really show up, you'll have to put a piece of white or silver plastic directly behind it, as the red is transparent. Unless you just print it on regular paper. Either way should work! If I can be of any more help, ask away!

Hey Scruffy,

Thanks for the info on the reticle, Ill have to give it a try.

I don't sew at all, so I bought my vest from Magnoli (after several well-chronicled previous purchases). I think his is the most accurate one out there, and his billowed pockets are a separate piece sewn between the face of the pocket and the vest.

If you want an opinion from someone who has actually hand-made the vest, you might send a PM to Kay Dee or aimeekitty. They have both made some excellent vests, and could probably point you in the right direction.

Good Luck, and

Thanks for the info! Looks like my pouches will be two parts! Here's to hoping I can show some updates soon!

my 2 ANH vests are both made both with seperate billowed strips to the pocket.

Me and my wife have spent a bit of time back and forth with what we think it should be... and have agreed that the pockets lay much better with it being 2 pieces... the pocket the the bellowed strip.

However...

IMO... the way the pockets billow, I do not believe they are two pieces. The fact that some of the pockets are tacked down at the tips, lead me to believe that the pockets did not lay very well for he actor so they tacket the top of the pocket flaps down for the movie to help maintain structure of the pockets. Having it two pieces this is not as needed IMO.

So I guess it comes down to what you want to do? Do you want to fight the pockets, or have them lay down well? I have not seen evidence that supports either... so its just my opinion keep in mind. Of which me and my wife still to this day argue as to which is right...lol.

Just another observation on this...

After my last post, I looked at my ESB Bespin jacket, which I had custom-made. The pockets were also constructed with separate strips to create the billows.

HOWEVER....

On my ROTJ vest, which was licensed by Lucasfilm and issued through the Fan Club many years ago, the pockets are made from one piece of fabric folded over.

Not sure it's necessarily any better or more accurate authority, but interesting and something to consider.

I'm thinking that the two piece pockets are the way I'm gonna go- more work, but cleaner looking. As long as I take my time and pin everything in place well, it shouldn't be too bad.
