Dantooine Base, we need your help!

The All Wings Report In podcast wants to start spotlighting our various bases to highlight the work and events each base takes part in. If you could, let us know here what are a couple of your "signature events". The events that really bring out the largest number of members, from your base and abroad. Ones that are known locally and nationally. Ones where your base really steps up and makes a positive presence for the Rebel Legion. You know what I mean?

We want stats! What's your current active membership?

What face characters are in your roster? Do you have one of each of the Big Three? Do you have five Anakins who submit to a ritual kuma te fight to see who appears and which events?

What costume has the largest number represented? Do you have enough pilots to recreate the Battle of Yavin, or enough Rebel Commandos to take over a fortified bunker and hold it indefinitely?

What date were your base and detachment groups formed? Be as exact as possible, but even giving us month and year can help us congratulate your anniversary.

We want to talk about you, and your segment of this wonderful Legion we belong to. So let us know here and Erich and I can start compiling data!

Finally, we need your voices to help us make All Wings Report In truly "podcast of the Legion". At the beginning of every show, we take three "Standing-By Bumpers" from our list and included them in our opening. We're starting to run low, and know we have a lot of Bases, Squads, Squadrons, Temples, Delegations, Command Posts, and Clans out there that we'd love to get into our rotation!

It's real easy to submit a bumper; just call the show at 781-609-SAGA and say "<your base or local detachment group name>, Standing By!" So, Dantooine Base Standing By! Dantari Temple, Standing By! Marauder Squadron, Standing By! 35th SOC Squad, Standing by! Someone, call ‘em in!

(Oh, and please, be a member of the Base/Detachment when you call it in. It’s only fair.)

Be sure to leave your name as well, and send us an email to podcast@rebellegion.com and let us know you did. We'll be entering your name into a monthly drawing for an All Wings Report In patch starting in June.

That's it! We thank you for your assistance in this project, and in helping us showcase the great work your base is doing for our Legion.

I can speak to a couple of these things. Though we're just a day late, we just had our biggest event this past weekend, Planet Comicon in Kansas City... I'm not sure what the other events we would consider 'signature' yet. For example though, all the SW groups together raised just over $1000 for the Peter Mayhew foundation this weekend.

Also, I have the dates of the base/squad formations down to the month:

Dantooine Base formed (split from Central Base): April 2007
Dantaari Temple formed: January 2008
35th SOC Squad formed: February 2008
Marauder Squadron formed: March 2013

Awesome, that means it's fresh in your mind.

Mr. Green

We want to start doing little 3-6 minute interviews about each base and outpost, and talk about some of the highlight moments and events for the base. Any more data for my above questions, or any neat trivia about your base we can use?

We are working on a plan to get you the 'bumpers'. Three of the four from command staff (the three that AREN'T me Sad ) are going to be togethre again this weekend...

I took the liberty of writing up some more details around the questions you asked. I'm not sure if you wanted it this way to read, or wanted to actually interview someone from here to speak to these... If the former, well, here you are...

===============================================
Dantooine Base covers the states of Missouri and Kansas, so the Kansas City metro is geographically the center of the base, and thus the largest convention in Kasas City has naturally evolved into the largest gathering of members from around those two states. Kansas City is also fairly close and well-connected to Omaha, so we draw a lot of Central Base members down as well. Planet Comicon has emerged in the last five years as not only the largest con in Kansas City, but really in the whole region, drawing attendees from other surrounding states. I believe you'd have to go as far away as Chicago or Dallas to find a larger convention. Not bad when you consider Kansas City is only the second largest metroplitan area in the base (though the largest FULLY within the base Wink ).

The show's promoters have always stressed the importance of Star Wars to their sucess as well. They always strive to have some kind of Star Wars celebrity presence, and they heavily rely on that to draw in a crowd. Part of that as well is that they've always been supportive of the many Star Wars fan groups like Rebel Legion. With the expansion of the show to the very large downtown convention center this year, Dantooine Base was one of the six star war fan groups that was given it's own "Star Wars block" on the show's floor. We not only had our standard information table, but were able to show off some larger prop building skills by building a pilot's ready room for our newly-created pilot squadron, marauader squadron.

Something else to note is that despite being in what many would consider a 'remote' part of the universe (not unlike the Dantooine we're named for), there are some important ties to Star Wars in our area.

First is 'Friend of the Rebellion' Darryl Woods. He's long worked with the various star wars groups in Kansas City, Dantooine Base included, by drawing caraictures of fans as their favorite Star Wars charcters at our events. But he's not just local, he was brough to Los Angeles for Star Wars Celebration IV to do the same. He also still helps us out by donating peices of his art to be auctioned/raffled off to help raise funds for charities like the Peter Mayhew foundation or Pincess Leah's Angels.

Second is another Planet Comicon staple guest and Kansas City native: Tom Kane. The voice of yoda (and many other characters on The Clone Wars) is from and still lives in in Kansas City, and has been generous in his help also in our fundraising efforts. Dantooine Base had the honor of inducting him as an honorary member of the Rebel Legion several years ago.

As far as face characters: We really don't have a whole lot. We don't have a Han at all since our one we did have moved out of our base, we have one Luke though, and we do have 3 or 4 Leias, and all but one is the classic A New Hope white gown, so we have to be careful about them showing up wearing the same thing. Not to make promises, but we hope to someday soon be able to claim three exciting new face characters: C3PO, Chewbacca, and Admiral Ackbar. We have locals in various states of progress on all three.
