I have the primer and first layer of paint on the helmet, but . . . my friend with the airbrush has been busy and our schedules haven't correlated up just yet Confused

Time to buy one! ;D

I bought one at Michael's over a year ago now... It was a cheaper one, and I used one of their coupons so it was even cheaper. Yeah, it's for painting shirts, but it works once you thin the paint...

There's also the disposable ones that you can get at TAP and some hardware stores. You can get the "set" that comes with the sprayer and a glass bottle, and then you can just by the aerosol sprayers separately (which is a can with the sprayer attached, and you just screw it onto the bottle). They come in pretty handy, I really, I've rather started to like them... (Though they only work for bigger areas.)

Be careful with the aerosol ones, though. I've had it a couple times where the aerosol leaks around the edge of the sprayer and starts to freeze anything it comes into contact with... Got my finger frozen to the can once, that wasn't very fun... Though I just had to run hot water over it to get it off...

Y'know, I thought of something recently, regarding the top chestbox thing on the Y-wing pilot flak vest.

I was watching Medium Cool today (it's one of the films we're watching in my American cinema class), and one of the characters was holding an object that immediately caught my eye because it looked so much like the chestbox piece on the Y-wing pilot flak vest. Granted I'm not sure how it compares size-wise (though I believe it's about right), but the appearance of it is almost identical. It even has the buttons and holes on the side (or top of the real object).

The character was holding a Motorola Pageboy, a type of one-way walkie-talkie/pager, which goes along with my theory that the one used in Return of the Jedi was some sort of speaker or radio.

I can't say with 100% certainty that it's what was used for the Y-wing pilots, of course, but the resemblance is unmistakable. After doing a little research I think that Medium Cool probably used the 1955 model, but I couldn't find a picture of that one. The one below is a model from 1974, which wouldn't have been made when this movie released (which was 1969).

That looks like it to me! Now all we have to do is find one that we can make a mold of. Good shot, Blue Leader!

Cool found Alex! It looks to me that it is the correct item.On the Y-wing Pilot Chestboxes you can see 2 small holes in the left side.

Unfortunately, the only ones I see on Ebay are the Pageboy II, which doesn't look even close to the Pageboy pictured above...

Long over-due update.

Code cylinders, boots, pieces for the belt, and gloves are in hand.

Ordered one of those handy chestboxes from Jeff and still waiting to hear back from MC about a gray flightsuit.

I've had some time to work on my helmet, and it's coming along . . . slowly but surely. Still needs a bit of detailing work and other painted designs.

Well...
I began my Y-Wing pilot also...
but..
being I rarely actually wear my X-Wing Pilot bucket (seems I mostly carry it or leave it laying around all over) I probably will not bother with the helmet...
at least right away...

instead I have started on some of the other pieces....

like the gaiters...which are done:

and on to some of the parts of the vest:

I am hiding some cotton strapping inside the fabric straps to give the straps more strength....and a piece of plastic inside the center back fastener piece..

Adding the top detail to the front of the vest:

If anyone has some of the greeblie pieces for sale...

lmk...

I don't want to start sculpting and making molds if I don't have to..

Laughing
