Hello! I've met some of you at various 501st/RL events so this is a semi-introduction, semi-where do I start post. My name is Haley, I live in Lafayette, my husband just finished his Tusken Raider and I'm working on Ahsoka Tano.

My biggest confusion with this costume is A) how to make togruta horns and B) how to build 2 lightsabers. I'm gathering a lot of information and reading through the forums but I was wondering if anyone here has experience with latex casting (particularly with lekku or other horn-like prosthetics) and does anyone have experience with building lightsabers, mainly because I would love to meet someone for hands on help. I don't mind getting dirty and I'm not asking someone to craft them for me, I just need guidance on what to buy, pour, paint, wire and all that Smile

Some good info on Ahsoka builds can be found in the Jedi section. It is usually good to see how people have already done it then work from there. It shouldn't be too difficult to find help putting something like this together once you have a good idea of what needs to be done.

Thanks Rogan for the threads. I've looked through all of these (and a few others that are similar) so now I have an idea of what needs to happen but still would like some hands on help with it. I think there's an armor party gathering soon so I'll try there too.

which season Ashoka are you wanting to make?

We could look into casting the horns like some people make the twi'lek head tails. I think it's very similar. I'm thinking we could build a basic form out of chicken wire and then cover it with paper mache. That would be an inexpensive way to start.

Hello again! Can't wait to see you at the prop building party coming up this month. Smile
I am excited that you have chosen a costume to start working on. We have many talented members who could help you figure out how to make what you are looking for, with a lot of prop building and molding experience. Some of them will be at the party so that will be a great time to get some hands on pointers.
I can also assist you with alien pointers as well as body painting tips. Wink
This costume will be a lovely addition to the unique variety of costumes that Dagobah base encompasses. Cool

i'm working on season 3. the costume standards are for season 1 so i'm using reference pics from the show and another member's approved season 3 costume to build mine. i've started on the tunic but may need some help with the stitching in the back (since it's a little hard to pin it on myself in some areas Smile).

twi'lek pam wrote me back about making lekku so i have a good idea where to start with the montrals (i think that's what togruta horns are called). they'll be done in clay first with latex painted over and then filled with expanding foam.

sandy, i will totally need your suggestions on body paint. i picked this season of ahsoka because it has the least amount of paint required but i'll still have to do a fair amount of painting. where did you get your paint for oola? i remember you telling me something about a sealant as well.

I got mine online from www.sillyfarm.com.
I use the Mehron paint. It is very affordable and works out very well and washes off easily.
I can give you more specifics and talk to you a little bit more in depth about the differences between all the different paints at the party if you like. Smile
