So I've been on Star Tours a number of times today, and there's something I noticed-- something rather interesting. I'm sure others have seen this before, but I haven't seen anyone mention it...

In one of the ending scenes for Star Tours, the StarSpeeder flies into a Rebel frigate and lands in the hangar after being escorted by an X-wing. There are some pilots and crew there welcoming in the riders, and I noticed something interesting... There is a spectacular full-body shot of a B-wing and Y-wing pilot. Because the filming is 3D HD the outfits are very clear, and they look like they've come right out of the Lucas archives.
The pilots are only shown for a few seconds, but long enough to take a few quick looks. The Y-wing pilot is a little less visible as she (yes, she) is standing, but crouches down a moment later.

This is probably a long shot, but does anyone have pictures of this scene, or know where some might be available? This would be an excellent source for B-wing and Y-wing pilot costumers.
Sorry A-wingers, I didn't see an A-wing pilot. At least I didn't catch one, anyway.

I did notice a few things about the pilots. There is one inaccuracy that I noticed: the B-wing pilot wasn't wearing gaiters. I'm not sure about the Y-wing pilot, I didn't catch it. But ignoring that, I noticed that the B-wing and Y-wing pilot ejection harness does have metal slides. Looking closely, where the straps meet from around the back of the leg there's a piece of shiny silver metal on each strap, which looks much like a metal slide. Light was reflecting heavily off of that area, so there was clearly something shiny and metallic there.
The B-wing pilot looks like he had a "belt box" on, but I can't swear to it, I'd need to look again.
I didn't see any sort of "belly tube" on the Y-wing pilot flak vest, but the bottom of the flak vest did look like it had a bit of extra padding right below the black strap.
No commpad or code cylinders on either pilot, but as for the pockets, I can't say for certain whether or not the coveralls had them. I don't think so, I didn't see anything that resembled a commpad or code cylinder pocket, but I can't swear to it. I think I saw one leg pocket on each leg, but again, I'd need to look again to say for certain. The shot is so quick it's hard to notice everything.

For all of you who will be going on Star Tours, if you see this scene, be sure to pay close attention to these pilots! Wink

Some interesting observations, Alex. I'll keep my eyes out. One possible complication: as it now stands, Star Tours has more than one "mission;" as such, you may not always get the version with the B-Wing and Y-Wing pilots.

Yeah Alex, I noticed the same thing. Unfortunately you only get that scene when your mission ends on Home One.

Way to brief, but you're right some clear stills would go a long way to forward our knowledge on the Y-wing.

Yeah, I know about the different paths... I've been through quite a few myself. I've been on the ride almost dozen times already. Heh heh. I've seen the Rebel ending about three times now, and every time I try to take a good look at them. Doesn't always work out well, but I try.

But it is encouraging that there are at least some clear images somewhere, even if they are brief. So it shows that they are at least somewhat readily available.

Now I say someone just needs to sneak in a hat camera and ride it a few times while recording. Laughing

Saw the Rebel ending two more times tonight (rode twelve times now!) and took a careful look at the Y-wing pilot. I realized that the B-wing pilot doesn't really have anything we haven't already seen, so I didn't pay as much attention to that pilot.
I made a few notes about the pilot, and when I get back home next week I thought I'd post them and maybe a rough sketch of what it looked like to me, and perhaps "compare notes" with others here.

Not that I'm planning to do a Y-wing pilot outfit any time soon, but I do enjoy exploring the various pilot outfits.

I had seen those in the ending before but every picture I took was blurry due to the 3D effects. I do know a few people that work at Disney. I can ask around to see if there is maybe a non 3D version of the video, even if it is a snap shot of a computer monitor.

Honestly, I think even blurry pictures would help. They can't be any worse than what most of us have seen. Razz

Any chance you could post 'em up, or PM them, or something?

But yeah, if some of your Disney friends can shed any light, that would also be good.

...And you took pictures on the ride? I would never... do that...

Perhaps certain color filters could be used on the lens to get past the 3-D effects??
I would suggest having several people with cameras go on the ride, each with a different filter mounted on the lens so that any details that may be washed out by one filter will be caught by the other cameras.

It wouldn't hurt to try it.

When I looked at the footage without the 3D glasses, it wasn't all that blurry. Yeah, it wasn't crystal clear, but details could still be made out more or less. It wasn't like a big blur, just a bit fuzzy.

But yeah, a lens may help, or perhaps something in Photoshop could be used (even Sharpen or Sharpen Edges might help). Another idea, though I don't know if it would work... ThinkGeek sells glasses that turn 3D images into standard 2D. Perhaps mounting that over the front of a camera would work? Razz
Granted I'm not sure what type of 3D those glasses are made for...

Are you so sure they come from the Archive? The snowspeeder is one of our guys wearing his own costume.

They sure look like archive costumes. If the costumes are fan-made, they're not registered in the RL because there are no registered B-wing pilots or Y-wing pilots that have the same outfits as seen during the ride.

I am a few weeks late on this, but my wife works at Disneyland and we go often. Last night as a matter of fact, and we rode it, but did not get that ending. I will pay closer attention now and see if I can catch anything. We are looking to do these costumes in the near future also on top of the X-Wing we are currently doing.

Do you guys ever do a group outing to D? It would be great to meet everyone, maybe before a troop outing.

Lisa & I got to go on this last week. We kept riding until we saw every planet.

From the Mon Cal hanger scene, it looks like they're doing the "Al a Carte" ROTJ pilot thing again.

The X Wing pilot in orange looked complete, but there were green jumpsuits with Bwing chest boxes and everyone everywhere. I think they're just taking a chest box, a vest, a jumpsuit, a helmet and walking on camera.

Could be. I don't remember if I noticed that or not, it's been so long now. Razz
All I remember is the ending scene in the Rebel hangar with a B-wing pilot that's missing their gaiters (but has almost everything else) and a Y-wing pilot.

Confirming what Gregor said. We saw that ending multiple times and it looks like they just grabbed parts out of a bucket. I did not think to attempt to get photos (was too busy being the Rebel Agent and all), but I did locate a YouTube video someone uploaded of the ride with that ending. The link below should go to the relevant scene. It's a bit blurry, but you can get the idea. I was just hoping that was a green X-winger...

Video link

Oh, and bonus feature from earlier in the same video (watch the comm screen on the right): HI ROB!
