Details:
Bobby Rosas (TK/TC-5467) posted on the 501st GGG boards & David Buckley (Endor Base CO) posted on the Rebel Legion Endor Base boards, a San Jose Mercury article http://www.mercurynews.com/milpitas/ci_22583979/milpitas-second-grader-jedi-against-cancer
about a "self-proclaimed Jedi" second-grader named Lillie Czarnota who, upon learning about a 15-year Livermore boy (Deven Leonis) who was battling cancer, took it upon herself to help the family by making and selling hand-drawn pictures of Darth Vader and Jedis along with bracelets and necklaces.

The fundraiser then mushroomed and took on a life of its own. With the help of her friends, school teachers and family, a collection drive was taken with the goal of selling the donated items at a yard sale on the morning of February 23, 2013. Thanks to media coverage of Lillie's effort, donations started pouring in from around the world.

Touched by the selfless efforts of this generous young Jedi, a team of Golden Gate Garrison Imperial troopers and Rebel Legion Jedi responded to the yard sale to show our support.

On a cold, but sunny Saturday morning of February 23, 2013, Operation "Team Deven Support" commenced. At 9 am, a lone Imperial reconnaissance team consisting of Stormtrooper TK2304 (Ed Karl) and a photographer (Karen Louie) arrived on scene. They presented Lillie with some Star Wars toy donations for the yard sale.

By 9:30 am, an Imperial reinforcement arrived in the form of a second Stormtrooper (Anthony Tse), Sandtrooper (Steve Lieberman) and Commander Wolffe (Nam Nguyen). As the Imperials arrived, they positioned themselves in front of the driveway in the hopes of warding off any Rebel attacks and welcomed the guests to this event. Then they also made their way to the nearby intersection to watch for Rebel fighters and directed traffic to the fund raiser.

But then came "The Return of the Jedi!" Rebel Legion Jedi (Karen Katich) & Legion Jedi supporter (Liz Phelan) arrived past the Imperial blockade and using the Jedi mind trick got a hug from the Imperial Stromtroopers! We then positioned ourselves in the area to keep the Imperials in line!

Finding Miss Lillie we presented her additional gift donations and a special appreciation for her wonderful effort.

Lillie became emotionally overwhelmed (and somewhat embarrassed) when she was presented with a Rebel Legion patch, as well as a Golden Gate Garrison patch, "in recognition of her heroic services".

By 10 am, the yard sale started to kick into full gear with people donating items for the yard sale, and many others purchasing items.

Prior to the Rebel Legion and 501st Legion leaving the yard sale, we signed the "Team Deven" guest book. And then took a group shot with the most exceptional little girl with a Jedi Spirit!

Afterward, it was learned:

$1700 and counting
PLUS Yard Sale $2070
PLUS Cash Donations of $350
PLUS $135 in Check Donations
PLUS Left Over Item sale going on right now PLUS still waiting for more donations to come in.

Current Total: $4255!!!!!!!!

What a GREAT EVENT to SUPPORT!!

NOW THIS IS WHY I LOVE DOING WHAT WE DO!!!

Blessings to Lillie & her parents for their extraordinary efforts and to Deven in his ultimate battle!

May The Force Be With You!!

Karen Katich
