ok... so...

Does anyone have any really good high res pics of the colors of the ANH blaster? I have looked, but it's hard to see exactly what's going on.

the main majority of the gun is kind of a black with some brass or silver rubbing/showing through on some of the edges...???

and then the grip is a dark brown with some weathering, correct?

anything else I'm missing...?

is this gun paint (bottom of the page) accurate?

Or what about this replica, are the colors accurate?

Han's ANH blaster is basically black, as in "gun blue". The scope mount shows some chipping/wear, with bare metal shining through.
Grips are indeed brown wood grips.
The scope could be made with some brass showing through.
Flash hider is also black, but with a different sheen than rest of the gun; in some pics it seems to have a more "anodized" look and might be perceived as a little lighter in colour than the rest of the gun. Think matt black for the flash hider and semi-gloss black for the rest of the gun...
The MR blaster in the eBay link looks OK.

Might be trickier than usual to get high res shots as wasn't this one of the props / costume pieces that went "missing" after ANH so hasn't been available to photograph for source books, etc? If it hasn't been found I personally I think it's in the back of Ford's wardrobe with the rest of the "missing" ANH Han costume or it is somewhere in Preston UK, but that's another story...

Anyway, to add to the rest of the advice, we do know what components the prop was made from, which might help in making it as authentic as possible. Main components come from different sources / materials, e.g. the Mauser frame, scope bracket, scope, flash hider and grill. While you could describe them all as "black", using different finishes as the different component sources would have had will add a lot to the final look.

For general advice, assembling the blaster and giving the whole thing a coat of the same black (obviously except the grips), and varnishing it all is fine. But it does make it look a bit like it came out of a mould and very homogenous. It looses the put together realism of the real thing. Even just a little bit of simple dry brushing and different gunmetal, silver, metallic / matt black shades goes a long way.

Looking forward to seeing the blaster.

Not many good shots of the blaster... but I can post a few.

keep in mind what is being said about stunt and prop blasters is very true... we can only assume that they made them in the same manner or close to the hero blasters.

I should also mention there is more than 1 blaster style used in ANH... just an FYI. Smile
