I would like to propose that we build some kind of portable, fun prop or item that would be great for photos or for kids to play with at an event. Maybe even use these as a focal point for collecting donations. It would be best if we could make several (similar) ones, so each squad had one, and yet they could all be brought together for large events like Denver Comic Con.

It should be:

- Relatively inexpensive
- Relatively easy to build
- Portable
- Fun for kids and adults
- Something that doesn't require a lot of supervision

Here are some possibilities:

- Photo stand with cutouts (similar to what the RMFF has)

(sorry, I can't find any pics of these, but they had them at DCC and Starfest.

- Rebel Legion logo backdrop, similar to this 501st one:

- Hoth Dish or Turret canon (lighter and more portable than the float version)

- Hoth trench blaster

- Group purchase professional Tantiv IV photo backdrop

- Pedal powered X-Wing or land speeder

Action figure card back:

Photo backdrop:

Hugh has the Falcon backdrop. We really need one in Denver. Jeff also has a green screen. We need to practice with this and get good (and fast) at pulling the green screen and adding backgrounds.

Blaster stand (barracks or armory look). I have 3-4 extra DH-17s I could donate to this:

- Membership photo frame (with cutout opening)

Other ideas good for conventions:

Patch collection
Coin collection

I think these would be "force" multipliers for any event. Even if there are only 2-3 Rebels present, it would make for a much bigger impression. It would provide a focal point, and a place to take donations. And it would look cool and be fun.

What do you think?

Those are some great suggestions Bill. I think you are looking for "face in hole photo stands" I searched for about 3 days till I strung that cord combo together when I was researching the RMFF one.

I love the action figure stands. I wonder if we could shrink the idea of that down. Its hard to have a feature that big and be able to store it or hand it off for events.

I think a slimmed down one would be best. I think we could also make the back out of printed vinyl, similar to a full color banner. You don't need a full acrylic case for the bubble package. They did one here with just framing.

That's it!!! Smile Here's a quickie tutorial on how to make one, for those who haven't sen them.

OK, nothing but crickets in 6 days. Does anyone want to see something new for the Mountain base, or should we just keep on doing what we have been doing?

I think the challenge becomes Building and storage.

All that being said, I do like the round RL logo, similar to what we saw at CV and CVI. Using the RL logo:

I think this would be one of the easiest to do and easiest to store. We could even do it on lightweight foam core, and either have the image blown up and printed, or maybe a few members in Denver with a vinyl cutter could do the images and lettering?????? Smile

I really like Scott's variation on the logo idea!

If we had a Photoshop Wizard who was capable of doing the cut & paste like a boss, we could set up emailed images in conjunction with Jeff's greenscreen.

My photoshop skills are amateurish, but somewhat passable!

I have a binder dedicated to trading cards and my challenge coins. I just need to secure the coins in their pockets so they don't slide out. Jeff and I were discussing coin displays for tables the other day too.

I also have a small binder that I have patches in, but want to relocate them to a bigger binder. Those I can bring for table displays.

I'm wanting to buy a vertical banner as well. Depending on pricing, and timing, I could get more than one.

Of course other bills keep trying to get in the way of feeding my Legion habit! Curses! Very Happy

I just had a brain fart too.. in the kitchen supply area of say Walmart, they have organizers for pantries, and the cheap spice racks they have could be perfect as risers for little things like figures, bobble heads, etc as displays.

I think these are great ideas.

Thanks for bringing this up Bill!

Scott's idea (adding to Bills Wink ) might be a good start, for a smaller item.

I like Shana's idea of vertical banners. The ones that Kurt has for the 501st are great. They really add to the atmosphere. Things like this might be difficult at an outside event with wind but they should work for most of the events.

Granted this is huge and takes up a lot of space but I've been thinking about the landspeeder and how it will work at various events. It's really more of a rebel prop than a 501st prop so I'm not sure where it would "best" fit. Perhaps for some events I can bring that along and add to the rebel side of things. I have been wanting to do that for a while anyway since I've always built things for the 501st uses and not so much for the rebels Embarassed ... so needless to say I feel a little guilty. I've at least been trying to make a presence at the R2 builder's table when Lynelle has that set up so I would like to give some love to the Rebel group too.

If y'all need any help with some of the smaller item ideas let me know. Perhaps I can lend a hand in some way.

I'd really like to make the "donut" with the Rebel logo (and the 501st in me would love to see us make that one, too.)

So the question is: How can we build this so it is lightweight, able to be transported and won't have a fold line down the middle?

If the interest is there, I can start photoshop work on banners... but it'll take fundage to get those made.

In all honesty, and this is just an idea, to make it look as absolutely professional as possible would be to design it up in a 3d format and have it cnc machined out of a dense foam or other material and then paint it. By dense foam I mean dense like 40 lb urethane.. you hardly know it's foam Wink

I don't have the 3d capabilities yet. I would like to acquire solid-works software and learn how to do it. We've been trying to establish that pipeline for years but I do know of a couple companies that might be able to cut it out if someone could create the file.
