I'm probably going to be starting up a bee's nest on this, but here I go. My XO and I were talking about this subject for quite some time and we've been wondering. We've seen Jedi flying fighters in the movies, comics, and the Clone Wars animated/CGI series. There's even several references to Jedi Aces (The Jedi Path, Jedi Vs Sith: The Essential Guide To The Force) who are basically specializing in piloting. Would Jedi be considered pilots? If so, would they be considered for a squadron? We know Obi-Wan Kenobi and Anakin Skywalker used a headmic when piloting, would this be the distinguishing factor for costuming standards?

Just tossing the ball about, seeing where it bounces I guess.

This is a touchy subject. In the Original Trilogy, the only "Jedi pilot" was Luke Skywalker, none of their others were pilots (hence why currently applicants can only submit a pilot costume with a lightsaber if they're doing a Luke Skywalker X-wing pilot outfit). Though other Jedi pilots have been mentioned in other sources, there are few pictures of such pilots actually in pilot outfits.

As for Anakin, Obi-Wan, and the other Jedi pilots in the prequels and Clone Wars, in my opinion they are Jedi first and pilot second (or even third), so I don't believe that they really fall under the "pilot" classification. Now, if they wore pilot outfits akin to the X-wing pilot outfits, than I could see them being allowed in under the pilot category (as long as they were in such outfits). But they don't wear pilot outfits, they wear Jedi garments, so I can't see them fitting under pilots, with or without the microphone.

This is basically the same as allowing Chewbacca and Han Solo costumers to also be classified as pilots, or even Han Solo costumers to be classified as Jedi (he did use a lightsaber once, after all Razz), or Obi-Wan falling under trooper status because he also could fire a blaster carbine. It just doesn't really fit.

So, in my opinion, what it all comes down to is what they look like. Do they look like pilots or Jedi? If they look like a pilot, than they fall under pilots, but if they look like a Jedi than they would fall under Jedi. Though Luke Skywalker was a Jedi, he also wore an X-wing pilot outfit, and when in that outfit he looks like a pilot and not so much a Jedi, so he falls under the "pilot" classification in that outfit. Though Anakin could pilot a starfighter his outfit looks like a Jedi, so he falls under the "Jedi" classification. On the other hand, if someone dressed as Clone Wars Anakin in the Naboo pilot outfit, he would fall under the "pilot" category because he looks like a pilot and not so much like a Jedi.

As for a squadron... I can't really see a "Jedi squadron" being needed. From what we've seen in the movies, it seems like pretty much every single Jedi had their own starfighter, so in theory every single Jedi costumer would probably be able to join the squadron... All of them can already join the KJO, so why would both be needed?
Under that same idea, all pilots with a blaster would be able to join a trooper detachment. Laughing

Though Jedi could be exemplary pilots, they were fist and foremost, Jedi. Having never heard of a specific group of force sensitive pilots in any of the books or comics, I would say that jedi being classified as pilots would be a no.

Jedi, will remain Jedi. If they are pilots they still dress as they normally do as Jedi. The only real difference is they wear a headset, but the rest of their clothing remains the same.

As a result, it was decided that Jedi Pilots would fall to the Jedi detachment, not the pilot detachment.

Whoops, sorry about that Wolfgang. "Togs" is a slang word (perhaps a bit outdated) for clothes.
