If you're using non-stretch velvet, just cut the pants on the bias.
*Every* woven fabric becomes stretchable if cut on the bias ;-)

True, but then you have a diagonal nap, which may or may not be desirable. I'm pretty sure that my solution for handmaiden pants v2.0 will be to just cut them with a little more room, as that will solve many of my range of motion issues (which, over time, have gotten better anyway).

Theoretically, if we wanted to do it the lazy way, we could just modify existing sets with basic trim, and make yarn/beanie hairpieces. Very Happy

Another way to make the pants more comfortable without having strecth, is to have enough fabric to make the pants rather loose in the back and put elastic in the back part of the waist band. The front can still fit smooth, but if you make the back looser, then you can still sit nicely. Tightly tightly fitting pants would need to be made out of a stretch though.

Though you would have the possiblity of saving some money if you just bought silk for the jacket and bought a matching stretch for the pants.

Another way to make the pants "snug" without stretch is to utilize a very long zipper up the back of the pants. This allows for a wider opening to climb into, as well.
