I'm sorry, what I meant was, is the eps 2 and eps 3 outer robe the same fabric but with different lining?

I think it's the same costume in both episodes.
What gives you the idea that it could be a different robe with different lining?

I'm watching eps 2 on a dvd on a computer, so I will give the outer robe is probably the same in the two movies. On my computer I don't see the same 3d appearance in eps 2 as seen in 3. Now looking at the the scene in eps 2 where Padme and the others come in, Palpatine's robe appears to be lined with a paisley type print

Just a question:
If you say 'lining', you're referring to the *inside* of the outer robe (the part that's facing the body, respectively the inside of the sleeves), right?

Also, screenshots please? My sister currently has my DVDs so I can't look it up Embarassed

The two costumes you show photos of look like the same costume to me to be honest. I can only *guess* they used the same costume in both movies. I don't see why they'd remake the entire thing only go change the lining.

When she mentions the two different fabrics for the lining - she means that both mateless fabrics and brocades with the dot pattern are possibly what they used. However, you can confirm with the LCJs but I would doubt they would hold you to that specific lining as it could be near impossible to find. I'd guess anything in the correct taupe shade would work - but please confirm with LCJs since I'm no longer one Wink

I agree, it would be interesting to see a screen shot of what you think is maybe a paisly fabric. (interesting to see if it is really different than what I photographed at FIDM, or just your eye playing a trick on you since the lining fabric seems to be an iridescent matalesse the more I look at my photos).

Yes, lining as in the inside of the outer robe facing the body.

That... is a good catch. It's something I've never seen before even if - and I looked that up! - it's even visible in one of the official images Shocked

So yes, apparently for this robe at least the sleeve lining is different from EP2 to EP3.
The only reason I can come up with why they changed the lining is that maybe the paisley pattern was too 'playful' for the more and more sinister Palpatine in EP3.
We do know that they deliberately 'sinistered' the look of his costumes over the course of the prequel trilogy; so that could be a reason.
