remember when you get to the scope, the base metal is brass not aluminum

But most of the scopes I have seen are black...including some of the real ones (that are over $300.00) for sale on e-bay...

anyway...

Rub and Buff....
here are some photos of the flash suppressor done in rub and buff...I included the packaging of the product so that you could see the label....I bought mine at Michaels...

first I sprayed the piece with black because I wanted some of the crevaces to be black with dirt and age...

I intentionally did not apply it on thick because I wanted that black to show through some of the areas..
I also applied smoothly on some parts..
and stippled on other parts...just for "age"...

I can always go back and add more...but I rather like its "beat up" look as it is...so I think I will leave it alone...

you can find some small touches of brass...
will have to see if they have brass "rub and buff" and add just a few "highlights".

what i did for my blaster scope on my E-11 was use brass model paint, and just lightly drag the brass across the high points to show wear points. the original scopes are brass covered in black enamel, so thats what you see on the real ones is just were the enamel has been rubbed off over time.

and yeah, the real scopes seem to go between $175 and $350 Surprised

bummer...
went on line..
they don't make brass colored rub and buff..

I worked on the piece on and off all day yesterday..

the blaster is assembled now...
and in primer...
and...
lol..
the best part is...
the gun is still operational as a AirSoft..

I drilled out the flash suppressor...
so BB's can still be fired..

and rather than drill into the ammo clip area to put the scope mount on...
I did a little "presto chango" on the scope mount so that it could be effectively glued rather than mounted with the screw that they give you...
cuz...
of course...
with the Airsoft...you are not drilling into solid resin/plastic...

I tried the mechanisms...and everything works...

will post some photos tonight...

Right, they're made of brass and painted black. Its one of the things I learned from FISD (its the same tank scope as an E-11).

You could try gold. its close enough. Or just stick with the silver, the brass thing is one of those anal accuracy things that most people would never notice anyways.

Hey Phyllis,

If I were able to get one of the real scopes, do you think you could cast it? be nice to know we could produce them if needed for members? I know i could use one, but theres no way i could mount a real one on a plastic airsoft.

You can cast anything...
the trick is making the mold.

All of the molds I have done so far have been simple, but I did buy the clay and other things necessary for 360 molds. So, yes I would love to try and make a 360 mold of the scope....
original pieces come out of the molding process un-harmed....

Well...here is my progress over the last couple days...

Again...because I wanted my piece to remain fully operational...
I took the scope mount

and sanded off that raised disc.....so that the scope mount could be glued right to the airsoft.....I didn't think attaching the scope mount by glueing just that small round disc would hold well enough.....I didn't want to drill and screw into the ammo clip.

Scope mount attached:

Since I removed that disc...which is a spacer....
I had to sand off some material off of the mount at the base of the scope to compensate a bit...

I also drilled out the flash suppressor so the BB's would go through it..

Scope mounted...
and this is where it sits now:

Just letting everything dry....

This morning I decided I didn't like the too new
and too shiny grip...

so...

before:

and

after:

Subtle...
but I mixed some black acrylic paint with water and brushed it on
left it just a bit
then wiped it off ....it left paint in the grooves and toned down the color a bit...

I never like to go too far with weathering...
I am not good at it...
so the next step I approach with fear....
using a little of the rub and buff on the black body of the blaster...
I will attempt to hit only the "high points" that might see a lot of wear...

I also think that I might try to install small screws from the bottom of the scope mount into the scope to make sure the scope stays in place...
My first resin adhesive failed....the scope came off after I was goofing around with the firing mechanism...
so I tried a different adhesive....

but I think a little reinforcment might be a good thing..

Wink

and....
stick a fork in it...
it's done...

Not happy with the paint...but decided to give it a rest...

first I painted it flat black...
then I added some "weathering"...
didn't like the weathering so I sanded most of it back off..
painted it flat black again...
decided I didn't like that and put a coat of satin clear over it..

decided I didn't like that and put a coat of flat clear on it...

still don't like it...
but...
not sure what I want to do with it...
so I am leaving it alone for now...
I may go back to flat black....

and...
yes....it still fires....
I loaded it up with BB's and was shooting at my front door....
lol....
there were BB's richocheting all over the place..

Very Happy
