mission report filed here on the RL boards as follows:

As we all know, Star Wars Reads Day turned out to be HUGE and requests came flying in from everywhere.

Obviously, there are not enough of us to go around and many Bases (I am certain) tried to accomodate as many requests as possible. Here in Illinois, we also had dozens of events throughout the State. I was able to attend two events.

The first one was in Braidwood IL, a rural community south of Chicago. Though small, those who attended were very enthusiastic. All of the participating members in this photo belong to Nar Shaddaa Base - regardless of the costume they are wearing.

This event was a true mingling of the groups as the 4 costumed people in attendance were all members of NSB and the Midwest Garrison. In addition, I represented both The Jedi Assembly AND the R2 Builders in addition to NSB and the MWG....
so we had 4 groups represented.

For our efforts at Braidwood, the Library sent a $100.00 check to Make A Wish AND we had a collection bucket out for our Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walk that comes up on October 14th and $15.00 was deposited in our collection bucket.

Braidwood Library:

After the Braidwood event, we all hopped into our "transports" and headed to Plainfield IL for the second event. We were joined at Plainfield by two more members of NSB and Darth Vader was handled by a local man with a very nice Vader costume...but he was not a member of the 501st.

This event was crazy busy as the crowd was estimated at over 400 people throughout the 2 hour event.

Participants at both events:
Vadersblade - Captain Rex
Zombie Bunny - Princess Leia
Schph Gochi - Jedi
Artoo Gochi - Astromech

At Braidwood:
Kurodor - TK - Kurodor was also at Plainfield but not suited up.

At Plainfield:
Woulff - TK
Janqui - Jedi

Huge thanks to all of the Rebels who came out on Saturday...
as noted...
All members at both events were Nar Shaddaa Base members...
Very Happy

Mission Report filed:

We have been at it for months....fundraising for Making Strides Against Breast Cancer. Team members for the "501st Legion and Rebel Legion United" Team have been pestering their friends, families and co-workers. We have done events and asked that the donation for our appearance go to our MSABC Walk.

Today we walked! Our team ended up in 3rd place for total donations for the Fox Valley Illinois MSABC walk. We raised $4,285.00 for breast cancer research.

Rain and thunderstorms were in the forecast so activities were moved inside the Chicago Premium Outlet Mall's protective cover. Where it is still an outdoor mall, the inner walkways do have a cover. Normally, all activities are held outside in the parking lot....last year it rained also...and we all got very wet.

Many thanks to all of our participants....

Representing the Rebellion:

Zombie Bunny - Janine Jender - Jedi
Woulf - Steve Mamman - X-Wing Pilot
Queen of the Universe - Samantha Scholl-Snowbunny Padme
Kurodor- Dave Obaidallah-ERS
Crix - Thomas Turner - RFT
Schph Gochi - RFT

Undercover for the Rebellion - NSB members in 501st costumes:

ID3052 - Steve Szyndrowski - Darth Vader
Whinter Fenlynn - Cheryl Whitaker - Pink Scout
Vadersblade - Rob Hamilton - Biker Scout

Kudos to all of our walkers....and fundraisers...

I think it can be summed up with this photo:

Some other favorite photos from the day:

There are times when even the most rebellious Rebels need to fall to the dark side...

Such was the case Saturday as Woulf, Kurodor, I donned our Imperial best to present Katie (the little girl who got bullied at school for being female and liking Star Wars) with her dream of her own TK armor.

Kudos to Woulf - Steve Mamman for being part of the team that built Katie's armor...he and 4 other members of the MWG cut and assembled Katie's armor with donations of parts and money from the First Imperial Stormtrooper Detachment.

you guys did an AWESOME job!

A little late on posting some of these, but better late than never!

October 6, 2012 I found myself with 3 troops in the Champaign, IL area! I was the only Rebel, but I did Nar Shaddaa base Proud!

First up was the Buddy Walk for Downs Syndrome!

Followed by Star Wars Reads day at Barnes and Noble!

Taking a time out from fighting to read a good book!

Even the Death Star has a Starbucks!

Finally we had a Cancer Charity walk to attend. We got to lead the memorial lap for a young trooper who sadly passed away from this terrible disease. Was great to be there with his friends and family

On October 28, 2012, the MWG and I went to Miller Park Zoo in Bloomington, IL for their Halloween Spooktacular!

I found myself with some reinforcements from these young Padawans! This will even the odds!

Most recently, we had a small troop on November 3, 2012 at a birthday party for a 7 year old. His parents were kind enough to make a donation to St. Jude's in our name just for coming out!

That's it for now from my adventures in Central, IL! Stay tuned for next weekends pics from Chi-TAG in Chicago and more from the middle of a cornfield!

Me too! Having weekends off and meeting a great group of Central IL MWG members is awesome! Plus, now we can carpool up to the Chicago events together!

NSB was out in force (no pun intended) yesterday at Brookfield Zoo to trim the Midwest Garrison/Nar Shaddaa Base tree...

Many thanks to all the Rebels who came out on Sunday:

Samantha - Queen of the Universe
Luke - Rebel
Ashley - Ewok 55
Steve - ID3052
Dave - Kurodor
Me - Schph Gochi

Woulff was there on Saturday with his youngling too...

The weather was beautiful...
The guy at the gate who took my ticket saw my costume...and said...
"Oh, the motorcycle riders have arrived"

Really?
Does an RFT Costume REALLY look like something a "bikder" would wear?

Anyway...

November 15th, 2012
Family Reading Night
Greenman Elementary School.
Aurora, IL
The school put on a space/Sci Fi themed event to try and encourage their students and children from the community to get into reading. We were asked to interact with the children and take photos. The school was extremely happy to have us and treated us great with water, pop, and pizza. We were given our own classroom on the 2nd floor away from the activities to change and store our tubs in. Once changed we were led downstairs and out into the main group of fans. Our contact did an excellent job of reigning in the masses of children and parents and had a line form up so the children could get their picture taken with us. The school also had a photographer taking shots of all the children as well as the parents. Once the event was over we went back to our classroom and suited down. It was a nice little troop that went very smoothly. They have told me they will definitely be looking for us in future events for the school.
For an added bonus, our contact had put out a donation jar for us being there, and I was just told that $100.78 was collected. We selected the Red Cross as the charity, so it will be donated in the name of MWG and NSB.

4 troopers for 1.5 hrs each
$100.78 donation to The Red Cross

Attendees: All 4 of us are RL NSB members, some of us being under-cover of imperial armor Mr. Green

Woulf, Steve Mammen, EC, Stormtrooper
ID3052, Steve Szyndrowski. Darth Vader
Crix, Tom Turner, Stormtrooper
Ewok55, Ashley McClintock, Endor trooper

Misson Report filed as follows:

Members of Nar Shaddaa Base representing:
Outlaw Squadron
Renegade Squad
Ranger Squad

My sincere thanks to all who came out to this event to raise funds for Children's Treasure Chest for Pediatric Oncology. This is the 9th year in a row that Nar Shaddaa Base and the Midwest Garrison have teamed up and done this event and it has become a favorite for many of us.

The organizers of Toy Con hold 4 toy shows per year, but this last toy show of the season is for charity. Anyone bringing a toy gets into the show free and all toys collected are then packed up in a u-haul and sent off to the Children's Treasure Chest facility in Orland Park where they are then distributed to not only local hospitals but hospitals across the country. When the toys reach the hospital they are given to children undergoing many types of treatments. The intent is to take the child's mind off his treatments and give them something to enjoy.

We as a group are invited out to take photos with people at the show for a donation. Donation dollars are then used for gift cards for older kids.

Participants:

David Klima - TK12155 - Stormtrooper
Jason Jaskulski - SL6588 - Emperor Palpatine
Rich Markle - TS1781 Snowtrooper
Ed Kryzowski - DZ4438 - Tusken
Steve Gaza TK4034 - Stormtrooper
Kathy Van Bueningen - TS9989 - Snowtrooper - NSB member undercover
Jason Patterson - SL1719 - Darth Vader
Cheryl Whitaker - TB3127 - Scout - NSB member undercover
Vince Baena - TB7596 - Scout
Steve Mamman - TK7345 - X-Wing Pilot
Steve Szyndrowski - SL3052 - RFT
Dave Obaidallah- TK4185 - ERS
Augie Webster - BH9397 - X-Wing Pilot
Jim Norman - TK8114 - X-Wing Pilot
Phyllis Schulte - TK1951 - X-Wing Pilot
Conor Markle - ROTJ Luke - not yet 18...but on his way..
Austin - Tie Pilot

Many thanks to Kathy for bringing along her awesome backdrops that add soooooooo much to the photos!

And...for me...there was a special personal moment.
Fellow members of NSB chipped in to purchase a little something I had my eye on....I had posted it as "something to ask Santa for" in case one of our members would want it for their personal collection...it ended up in my hands...

WOW....
dreams do come true...

Which helmet do I wear....
duh...
no contest!

My most sincere thanks to all who kicked in to purchase this remarkable helmet for me.....and I assure you...it is remarkable.

I am going to be the custodian of this helmet but it truly belongs to all here at Nar Shaddaa Base....
know that any time there is an exhibit of Rebel pieces like Discovery World and the Joliet Library SW Day...this helmet will be there.
Also, anyone who wishes to borrow it to wear at an event with their Pilot costume or Farmboy Luke....please lmk and I will bring it along.

If there is one thing I have begun to learn about collectibles is that they are to be seen and enjoyed...
That is why I am working on selling off some of my SW collection that sits in tubs doing nothing. If those collections of action figures don't sell...then they will be donated for events where prizes are needed....
hopefully to be enjoyed by someone...

Again...my sincere thanks...
not only is this helmet a salute to SW...but the base unit is a Vietnam era flight helmet and the Vietnam War was my generation's war....my brother in law died there...so...this helmet has a lot of meaning for me.

My thanks again...
and...
here is a little pictorial of years past....
As you can see...we have done this since 2004 (thanks to Kathy for the 2004 photo!) and next year will mark our 10th Anniversary of doing this event every year...we hope to do something special next year.

And...immediatly following the Toy Con toy drive...2 members of NSB hoped transport and flew to Aurora where we entertained a group of younglings celebrating Conner's 6th birthday. We enjoyed some good ole fashioned bowling ally cuisine, took photos with the children and parents alike, sang "Happy Birthday" to the child of honor as a cake with a striking resemblance to R2-D2 was unveiled. After this we suited down and were given thanks by the parents and also the news that a donation will be made to Make A Wish!

NSB Attendees:
ID 3052, Steve S, RFT
Woulf, Steve M, Stormtrooper
and
501st member, Arcturus 1020, Jim T, Lord Vader
