Some troops turn out to be about charity or impressing kids... This troop wouldn't be classified as one of those unfortunately. There weren't that many kids there, and the adults were more about the toys than Star Wars guys... Theres something sadly wrong with that concept, but it is what it is...

THE GOOD:

Happily, lots of good stuff happened too...

We helped raise some money for the NJ Relief Fund (for Hurricane Sandy relief)... Will find the totals out in the next few days...

On Saturday we had a pretty large group show up, and had a lot of fun hanging out with each other. We had folks from the Rebel Legion and Mandalorian Mercs there, and by the end of the troop, we were one big happy family of Star Wars costuming geeks. The way it should be Smile/>/> I know we left a mark on quite a few vendors and attendees that we really have fun doing this and a couple of people mentioned it to me on Sunday...

We met one of our newest prospects Kevin (aka EdrrakNolat - one of NwarhT Larimda's enemies LOL) and we hazed him a bit - see photos... Hopefully we left a positive impression..

We saw Alt-Joe do another great job at giving an intro to the 501st at a panel. He also put together a really cool photo slideshow on his laptop which was the next step in technology over the photo albums... I noticed a few times that it was getting a lot of attention from attendees and our members... Another great job Alt-Joe!

On Sunday, we had a smaller group, but my niece from NH showed up as well as a few others who we might have helped recruit into the 501st. The con was a bit slower today, so many of the vendors came up to us to get pictures and talk about the group...

THE BAD:

The con was a little disorganized... The organizers may have gotten in over their head with a convention of this scale, but their hearts were in the right place... Hurricane Sandy affected the hotel (its on the waterfront) and its schedules, and it kept changing things on the organizer and messing them up... Also the green Bay Packers were staying in the hotel and they got the lions share of their attention (and the better area)...

Also, like I said earlier, the attendees were more into the toys rather than the Star Wars guys... They kinda didnt know what to make of us..

THE UGLY
Well, the biggest ugly was that we were originally given a nice locker room to change in... And it was great... We shared it with the hotel workers who got a kick out of us being there... They loved us... But all of that changed on a dime... At one point, two managers with security guards came up to us and told us it was a private area and that if we went back there again, they'd eject us from the building... Real nice... It seems that the organizer didnt really have permission for us to be back there, and the hotel wasn't appreciative... So in changing on Saturday night, and on Sunday, we kinda just dropped trou on the con floor.. It wasnt pretty, but dammit we change in parking lots enough, at least we werent getting rained on...LOL

Overall, we had a good time... There probably wont be a TOTH 2013 (the organizers lost a buttload of money), but if there was, I'd do it again... They were disorganized, but their hearts were in the right place and they tried to do the right thing... Next year, they would've been more experienced...
