I wish I had an answer for you...
at the end of the day..
either way
your costume would be good to go as long as you can see the dropped shoulder quilting and the quilting at the back and on the sleeves...

Again..
when I began the Hoth Trooper project...
there was really no information out there...

I commissioned Rachel Orange to do the jacket as I was concentrating on all the other pieces...
Rachel took what she could see and came up with the tutorial for the jacket...
there was a number of things that can not be made out or determined...
so..
I am sure she went with what made sense....
which in the case of the jacket it made sense to have the yoke the same in the front and back...
kind of like the Rebel Fleet Commander
and
the Hoth Commanders...

both of them have color changes and/or quilting above the yoke line...

dunno..

The yahoo group is a phenomenal resource for the costume. The tutorials are extremely helpful and without them, I'd be lost, too. We're so lucky to have good pictures of a hat from the production, but it's too bad all of the other components were tossed to the Arctic winds after filming.

My seamstress and I worked on the hat and vest this past weekend, and I've been quilting (and quilting) all the necessary parts of the hat and jacket sleeves. I'll post a few progress pictures after this coming weekend, so stay tuned Smile

I have to admit..
I am pretty happy with the way it came out..
and I usually hate everything I make...

Phillis, are you planning on selling these? Because I'll buy one off you right now, if I can.

sure....
I can cast you one...
just send me a pm with your address...
so I can figure out the best way to ship one to you....
and shipping $$

since I do this stuff strictly for giggles...
I just cast them as needed and only charge a few dollars to cover the cost of supplies...

got it...
and not to hi-jack Jason't thread...
but
information that is
good to know:

One thing I have figured out is that a lot of the molding and casting stuff does not have a really long shelf life.

When I went to Reynolds Advanced Materials (where I purchase molding and casting supplies) last time I asked the guy there about some information on the different mold materials..he said that some of them deteriorate in less than a year...

using them or not...

and..

my own experience with the smooth cast liquid plastic I found that the gallon jugs that I bought started also to "get funny"...
the clearish yellow part A was turning cloudy...
the clear part B was getting thicker....

so...

last night was "casting night"....

I took what remained of those gallon smooth cast and started casting everything I had...
multiple times

so...
I now at least have a stockpile of stuff that will not deteriorate...

Very Happy

Jacket, vest, hat, belt, and holster are complete. Once I've finished th gaiters, I'll put it all on for some additional pictures. (probably submit without the backpack finished so I can troop this in a couple of parades next week).

Constructive feedback is welcome!

Thank you, sir! Made it myself since I couldn't find a white military parade belt that wasn't authentic. I used white canvas, batting, and some heavy/firm interfacing.

I am very excited....it has been quite a while since we had a Hoth Trooper join our ranks...

The belt will probably be a work in progress.

Initially I had made my belt out of canvas that was backed with batting and interfacing and it just would not hold its shape....
so I found a very heavyweight vintage Italian Policeman's belt on-line - they are white...and it has worked out great...

What you can also do if you find that the belt gives you issues...
is to open up the seam on your belt...
take an olive drab military belt
and slip it inside your canvas belt and sew the seams back up again....

Something like these would also work:

That's a good idea about the belt, Phyllis. I have an extra web belt, too. I'll see how this one holds up and if it doesn't work out, I'll follow your lead Wink

lol...yeah...the belt was one of those things that drove me crazy.
I wanted it to look like the one on screen, but after wearing the costume only 2 times...I tossed the belt and started over...
if I ever get around to it..
I would like to cover my current white belt with the more accurate three lined fabric...
just another one of those "I will get to it eventually".....
I finally got around to re-making the gloves after about 5 years of saying I was going to...
...
so....
eventually I do seem to get around to things...
