okay i really just started on my jedi costume looking for the right fabric and color. but first a resently bought the simplicity 5840 pattern can anyone give me an rough idea of the amount of modding i will need to do to make it approvable.

You don't have to go far to see how these commercial patterns are modified for screen accuracy. Have a look in these forums for many things "Jedi".

And here's a tutorial for modifying the Simplicity 4450 (very similar to the 5840). I'm about to upgrade this tutorial. I've got new pics and will be making it more of a step-by-step tutorial (rather than leaving it up to the costumer to figure out the sewing sequence from the posted pattern pictures).
