Howdy!

I am starting the Bespin Leia project, and here are some photos of my supplies. I wanted some feedback on the fabric color. I saw some beautiful Bespin Leia's at CVI and noticed that a lot of them were more of a "raisin" color, I went with more of an "orange/nutmeg" color, but wanted opinions before I started. Before we get too far, I realize photos don't portray the best coloring...
Thanks! Smile

The fabric looks great to me - it holds up in different lights and has a nice texture to it. Smile

The copper trim needs to be very thin - around an 1/8 to 3/16 of an inch, so I would check the thickness of your chosen trim. A lot of us use Kreinik metallic cord in Copper and hand-sew it on - it looks almost identical to the original and can be ordered on online through several embroidery supply vendors.

And the embroidery colors are dark brown, a red similar to your tunic/pants fabric, rose pink and butter yellow. My yellow was too light, a choice ruled by flash pictures and one I always regretted (and may redo one day), so I tell girls what the floss colors are like a mantra. Smile

Where did you get your fabric from?

I was looking at this one, it seems like a close match -

Thanks! The trim is about that size, it looks huge in the photos. I think I still need to get the pink floss, the others I believe are right on. Smile

I think I got it at Hancock Fabrics...I don't remember, I have had it for so long, I forgot. Wink

I am excited to start, my husband decided he wanted me to "help" him with a rather difficult costume at the same time so my progress on this might be spotty at best, but luckily for now, no deadlines! Smile

Hope I wasn't too severe on the trim - you're right, it does look very big in the photos against the floss skeins - but I wanted to mention it just in case. Always better to catch the little things before dipping in too far.

Looking forward to seeing your progress! It's a lot of work but it's so worth it when it's done! Very Happy

sorry about no updates, life has dealt me some not so pleasant things I am having to deal with, but I still intend to do this costume.

So here is a seemingly "dumb" question, how high are the slits on the sides of the tunic?

No such thing as a dumb question. Smile

They seem to start at or just above the fullest part of the hip. If you aim for somewhere close to that, you should be fine.

And take your time with this costume - no need to rush! It took me about two years to do mine with drafting multiple muslins and the hand embroidery, but it was worth it.

Hope things get better for you in the meantime. Smile

I ended my slits where the waistband on my pants began.

I haven't been able to work on this as much as I'd like due to commissions and "life", but I finally took some time and got a couple of things accomplished. I did the pants too, but they are too small Sad The tunic ended up being too big, but after a slight fix, got that squared away, I also made progress on the belt too. So here is the tunic and belt..needs ironing, and finishing and trim..Now the hard part, to figure out the embroidery on the cloak. Wink Oh, pay no attention to the mess in the background, I have a very small work space...

I've been harassing my friend at a print shop to scan my pattern for me and keep hitting his wall of procrastination. I'll see about disassembling it to scan at home. If you still want it, that is.
