95% done on the X-wing pilot.

I need to make a minor adjustment to the collar of my jumpsuit so it doesn't choke me, and then just a couple more decals, painting and weathering and the helmet will be done:

A few years ago I started a Jedi costume. Unfortunately, I truly messed up the robe, which IMHO is the most important part. I do have some dark chocolate camouflage fabric that I've wanted to make a robe with, and if I read the CRL's right then as long as the costume is made of earthtones/natural hues then the brown camo should be fine, right?

Please let me know your opinion of this. I'm seriously thinking of finishing my Jedi for Starfest (Jawa Jaka is still around, but the eyes need some repair work first, and sometimes it's just too dang hot to wear it). Also, I have some really nice dark brown boots, but they have buckles on the side of them. What is the consensus on boot buckles?

I think I have everything else except a few small items for the belt that should be easy and cheap to get. Help me finish my Jedi!

No buckles/laces visible, Lynelle. You might be able to cover them with spats, similar to what Anakin had in ROTS on his boots.

I don't know about the camouflage fabric. Do you have a pic you could share? Might help get a yea or nay on using it for the robe, which is pretty iconic, as you indicated.

They're pretty picky on jedi. Camo, even if earth toned, would probably not pass muster.

While the robe is the most important part, IMHO, it actually is not required for submission.

That being said, in my experience, if you are going old republic jedi, Camo is not going to play. New republic, possibly, but I would not hold my breath.

You can get brown fabric cheap, or even muslin and dye it. I have two types, a summer and a winter weight robe.

----------
On my costumes, for SW:
Just finished Greedo.

others (approved)
Admiral Daala (Grey/Green Imperial Officer)
Black Imperial Officer
Tie Pilot
X-wing Pilot

Old Republic Jedi (multiple versions: Tan/Brown/green obi/tabbards)

Have, but haven't gotten approve
Barriss Offee Clone Wars
Kabuz New Republic Jedi (aka Snoot nose)
Ackmena
Garinden (Snoot nose spy)

Silly:
Zombie Leia

Retired/on Hiatus:
Princess Leia
Barriss Offee Attack of the Clones

I LOVE raw silk as a lightweight robe material. It takes dye very very well and can be procured cheaply via Dharma Fabric online.

It's what my current Jedi robe is made from.

Now if I'll just get around to making my tabards....

Among the other costume projects, one of which is super seekrit Wink

Shana,
Is that raw silk the same as what one might use for Yoda robes? I seem to remember reading that at one time. We have a yoda kit that I got years ago which we need to dig out and finish one of these days. It was the first "good" yoda I have ever seen sculpted so it would be a cool one to finish up.

Lynelle, if you want to do the work on one of our open shop workdays I could hook you up with a vac-formed mask and LED kit.

As soon as you figure it out, please teach me. I was told it is very easy, just need a photobucket account. I do not have one and haven't taken the time to get one. Maybe in 2013.
