Schph, This has been an easy one (well the male version anyway) so far with three exceptions. 1. the collar. 2. the hat symbol. 3. the large grey radio box. Everything else I had handy and am working on completing it shortly (this may be a relative term though...work has me very busy!). Pics and a proposed costume summary coming soon...stay tuned...

The B-wing pilots have a "radio box" that's almost identical to the one these characters wear, except without the cords. I made my own, and I think it came out fairly close. It's not an exact match but it was as close as I could find. With another cord on top going to the headset, it should do just the trick for this outfit.
You could also paint the plug on the cord (that plugs into the bottom of the smaller box) silver to better match the picture.

This was all just made out of black plastic project boxes and a cord from a sound system, and a black computer connector-- which I can't remember what it's called. The computer connector has a couple coats of gloss paint on it so it stands out a bit more from the matte black of the boxes, like in the picture of the Rebel Fleet Controller.
The small box in front has a hole drilled in through the bottom and I have a metal plug inside that the cord plugs into, so the cord is removable. The small round socket at the top was made is resin (it's from a real plug that I made a mold from and then cast in resin), which allowed the cord from my second B-wing pilot helmet to plug into... But with my latest B-wing pilot helmet I changed the cords to something more accurate, so I no longer use that plug. I have also removed the cord from the smaller box.

Awesome info Blue Banshee! Are you referring to this "fleet controller"? If so my starbird thought is not valid...

If so, I think this is a great reference to the "female" version.

I have been searching for the grey ammo box.

The "ammo" box" turned comm box for ROTJ is also larger on the male crew. Any idea on a source of this box?

The ammo box is a pretty common style. the radio box is pretty simple.

Looks like one chord just goes into the pocket? Then ends in something that almost looks like an iPod connector painted black, just a little longer on the radio box?

Does the badge chord just go into the ammo box?

For the longer pouch, I'd start looking at the synthetic FN-FAL or G3 style pouches. Possibly French or West German from the 80's. They were made of a stiff nylon plastic, in a color that was very close to your photos.

So after a little hiatus, I have resumed working on this one. You were right Mac Bragg, these pouches work pretty well in my opinion, but I don't like the color of them. All else considered, I'm happy with my progress. Photos coming soon!

SO, the question that has been nagging me lately is this: Is this character a crew member or an officer? The rank/comm. badge worn by them is identical to the one worn by Admiral Ackbar and the other Mon. Cal. characters...I am now leaning towards thinking they are officers (NCOs) probably, that play a similar role in starship navigation, control, piloting, engineering/mechanics, and a load of other duties to the Imperial Ensigns/NCOs on Star Destroyers (all of the black uniforms with NO rank badges in ROTJ especially). Thoughts? Comments?

good question...
hard to say...

Since this scene is a "briefing"...usually only command personnel are at briefings..and then they bring the information to their units...

In the one photo the character you are doing is sitting next to what appears to be just a regular ERS...ROTJ Commanders were mostly dressed like Crix Madine...
so..
who knows...

Regardless of which classification is correct (and I am leanning to either NCOs or Warrant Officers, possibly junior officers). Here is my first rendition of it minus the badge, black box, and hat symbol. I don't like my choice of large comm. box either, but it works for now...AND the sewing is done!!!

Moving to a WIP thread-post now!
