Ok....ready to rock and roll and to make a mold of the Hoth Trooper wrist comm...my current wrist comm is on the left...and it is a bit large imho...

so..

all of these bits and pieces

finally make this:

a thin layer of primer to seal the wood and most importantly to check to see if any woodgrain is showing...

and....
it looks good...

ready to make a mold....

For Discovery World demo purposes...
I decided that trying to work on this would be difficult...
so...
I will bring the dowels and all the "stuff" I used to make it...
and put the "process" on a sheet with photos....
and bring the mold.....

well...
I have to say that I am actually pleased with the outcome of the Hoth Trench Trooper wrist comm...
and I am never happy with anything I make usually...

I think it came out really good....

starting the mold:

took forever to dry...

ready to unmold:

and the sculpt, mold, and casted piece...

with that done...
I went back to the Snowspeeder Pilot wrist comm....
and..
the more I looked at it...
my "new" sculpt looks really too small now...
and I was thinking that my original and larger sculpt was much closer as I looked again at the screen captures and reference material...

so ..

I went back to my original sculpt....and the cast made from that mold...
and started sanding and fiddling with it...

the result is below...

left to right...the original sculpt
one of the original casts sanded and "re-worked"
the new mold
the new cast
and lastly on the right is the "smaller" version I was working on....
dunno..

Crix and I had a mini NSB meeting as we walked at MSABC....most of the rest of the participants "fell away" but Crix and I finished the entire 5K ...
so..
we had a chance to talk about projects...

One thing I am going to do today...
is to watch this video to get a handle on 360 casts....

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FQ1A7ZjTsx8&list=PLB8FC86FD2A729E87&index=3&feature=plpp_video

unfortunately...it looks like I will need the "mold star" product...
something I don't have....

but...
am going to start small with the X-Wing Pilot code cylinders...

Wink

and...
so it begins....

I was up at 2:00 am...and facing the mass quantity of stuff that I unloaded from the Jeep after yesterday's mission to Discovery World....and...
with most of the stuff put away..
I began the Bespin Luke holster...
Thanks to Bob Kohn...I picked up some very important tips...
and am glad that I waited to buy some of the hand stitching tools...cuz..
I would have bought the "wrong" things...where they would have worked...
Bob showed my a better way with tools that I would not have thought to order...

I did get a basic shape cut at DW yesterday...
and then this morning I soaked the piece of leather...

and...
then started to form it to the blaster I had on hand...just a Hasbro toy..

since I don't know what blaster Luke Zintak will end up with...this holster is just a "prototype"...
a trial and error...
a learning experience...

I don't own a hair dryer ....so I will have to let this piece air dry...and in the cold confines of my house...
I am sure that will take days...
so it is on a wood "breadboard" for the next few days...

after dry...

will need to trim..

and then will need a few tools to mark the holes...

then stain...

then sew...

it's a start...

lol...
I have to be in the "mood" to sew...I imagine I won't get back to that till all of the outdoor work is done...and winter upon us...

today, for example, I have to mow the lawn and do more clean up of the garden...
so I will be busy with "weapons of mass descruction" outdoors...
chipper shredder and mower..

Laughing

well...
it is almost dry...
but there is little more I can do till I go to Tandy...
the holster is (I am certain) too long in the barrel...
but..
it can always be cut down...
can't add on..

I was looking at some misc photos of Luke's Bespin blaster...and it looks like it does have a fairly short barrel...even with the flash suppressor on it...

I pm'd Luke and asked him what he plans on using for a blaster...
and...
again...
this is just for giggles and to get the feel of trying to make a holster...
the leather I used is too thin really...it would be ok for a plastic toy or a hyperfirm...
but not for anything with some heft..

Ok..
I have entered the "danger zone"....

too many projects in the works....
and..
when I overwhealm myself....
I have a tendancy to just avoid it all...
lol...

so...
I have to publicly declare my insanity and start to prioritise...
it goes without saying that I am shutting myself off from further projects....

In the pile currently are:

General Riekeen/Hoth Commander costume
Re-doing Hoth Trench Trooper gloves
Making gauntlets on Snowspeeder Pilot shorter
Mod Ethan's RFT Shirt
Making a 360 cast of X-Wing Pilot code cylinders
Prototype of Bespin Luke holster/belt and misc.
Adding fans to Gunner Helmet
Adding a good hard hat suspension system to Gunner Helmet
Adding motor and RC elements to make R2's dome turn
Complete re-work of TK...including complete paint job, new belt, some new fasteners, and yet more trimming.
Making a new/larger Hoth Trench Trooper wrist com sculpt and mold
Re-working the jacket for the Naboo Pilot - needs some finesse
Re-working part of the Naboo Pilot leather harness
Finding wider boots for the Naboo Pilot
Making a new Jedi tunic set
Making a sculpt and mold for Endor Wrist Comm
Finishing my new Endor Donut-my old one is a little big and starts to drop.

and..
I am sure there is more...

Well....I am sick today but am still going to try to troop an event later on this afternoon...it will be short...so...I will hopefully hold up.

I got out the sewing machine and am trying to tackle the imenseness of my projects by starting out small.

The Hoth Snowspeeder and Hoth Trench Trooper gloves.

I had to shorten the gauntlets on the Snowspeeder gloves...where I thought I could get by with a simple hemming...
didn't happen...
had to take them partially apart and re do...
but that project is done:

Next I went on the the Hoth Trench Trooper gloves...since the day I finished those I have NOT been happy with them. They were too narrow at the gauntlet...those are a total re-do.

As I took them apart...I marveled at my own stupidity for the way I made them (remember that the gloves were done probably over 5 years ago) but also marveled at how hard they were to de-construct...lol..
where everything I make may not be the greatest...one thing I try to do is make them as indestructible as I can...and for sure...getting those gray gauntlets off took an act of god....

So...they are undergoing a complete overhaul...

While doing that...I was also putting another coat of dye on my holster...
not happy with it at all...
and finding that the dye is blotchy. Yes, I have dyed leather before...but mainly belts that were not put through the wet forming process....and suffice it to say I have a lot more to learn ...
I did put all the holes in for hand stitching...also a learning experience...
The library does have books on leatherworking...so I will need to consult those before I go futher...and again...
this is a learning experience on the holster and certainly a trial and error thing...

My list for myself...red = done

Scratch a couple additional projects off the list.

I finished the complete overhaul of the Hoth Trench Trooper gloves...
those have been bothering me for years...
The gauntlet is now wider to accomodate the sleeve of the jacket and there is no white showing around the wrist comm

I corrected a raw edge along the neck facing of my Naboo Pilot jacket and secured a couple pieces of the leather harness with rivits....
the adhesive was not holding up.

And...
finally...
my first foray into hand-stitching leather...
suffice it to say it was a learning experience...

Laughing
