Just got my Covertec clip in the mail today, finishing out my Generic Jedi (approval pending).

I took the blade off of my saber and popped the hilt in the clip. But then I was left holding the blade wondering what to do with it.

My question is, what do most Jedi do with the blade when it is detached? Has anyone come up with some ingenious under the robe storage system that I am not aware of??? I can't imagine that each event is a blade on all the time or blade off all the time scenario...

Great question. I actually ran into that same problem at a troop this past weekend. I ended up hiding mine among the booth bins and banner holders. Razz

I've seen a long, narrow pocket sewn into the inside of the cloak, along a side seam. Never tried it though, so I don't know how comfortable it would be. You might not be able to sit down with the blade in there.

Yeah most people sew a pocket on the seam either on the side or the back of the outer cloak, but if the weather is too hot for an outer cloak then you are back to square one. At a troop I have never not used my blade unless I'm just wanting to walk around and then I can leave it in the bins or something. But I rarely walk around in costume without the blade in. Glow stick is not much of a glow stick without the stick LOL

Yeah, I would say your options are hidden robe sleeve, tuck it into your belt and have the robe hide it, or not have it on you. Not really any other options to go with.

I usually just put it in my bin in a secure changing area because I don't have a robe.

So do you Jedi take advice from Sith Lords? Razz

I use a Stretch Flashlight holder to carry and keep my removable blade hidden on my Vader costume. I picked it up at my local Lowe's hardware. You obviously can't sit with it but clipping it to my belt I can easily store my blade while at an event and it is the perfect size for my Ultrasaber blade.

Example:

I also allows for a pretty cool trick of taking my unlit saber off of my belt hook, inserting the blade behind my back (under the capes) and then pulling out a lit lightsaber.

Click the image below for a short video (sorry it's from a cell phone camera so it's a little grainy):

I sewed to "tube" inside my robe and along the side seam. The bottom tube is closed on the bottom. My blade fits in and is held by these tubes.

I used tubes to keep from sewing one LONG tube. It's easier to use and required much less material. I did have some left over material, so I used the same material that the robe was made of.

I can sit in my robe without a problem..and the flow and drape of the robe is such that no one knows I've got the blade there. When I need the blade, it's a simple matter of removing it and putting it in my 'saber hilt.

I like it. Good ideas all around. And I do have material left over too.

Any chance you might be able to post a picture of this? Of the tube/pocket thingy, that is. For some reason I'm having a hard time picturing it... >>;;

Here you go:

First up, here's a close up of the top and bottom "tubes" I sewed into the inner seam of my Jedi Master's robe. These tubes were sewed using an anti-ravel stitch on my sewing machine...then hand sewed to the inner seam.

Here's a pic of the whole thing:

Want to see how it looks in use? Just look at any pics of me wearing the robe Wink
