So, since I have build threads in some other places I figured I might as well have one here as well. I've started assembling an ERT, but it's not my sole priority so I don't have a plan for when I'm going to finish it.

So far I have this:

and it turned out too big for me, so I'm giving it away. But at least I learnt how to make the soft cap, so it shouldn't be too hard to make another one.

Today these things arrived in the mail

BDU pants
vintage soft canvas ruck sack with two pockets
vintage pouch
DH-17 nerf gun

The blue fabric is because I'm planning on making the Endor Leia as well.

Someone is going to be a lucky person (I assume its going to someone in your base?) How hard was it to sew? I have been looking at making one with the patterns online but just have not yet gotten a chance to see how hard or simple it will be to make it.

The soft cap was easy to make. I followed the instructions that you can find in the Endor Bunker yahoo group, but I also have an original AN-H-15 cap for my A-wing pilot, so I think I looked more on that one when I was wondering about the details, mostly the shape and placement of the leather pieces and snaps.

A couple of pointers about the soft cap...

look at this screen capture...you will see that the ribbed/pleated piece sticks up a bit and you can see the AN-H-15 under it on both sides....

that being said...
and this is just a suggestion...
and since you said that you will be making another....

make the soft cap and pleated piece in two parts...
attach pleated piece to AN-H-15 with hidden velcro at the front and back...
and when making pleated piece...
use a flexible plastic on both side rails to help with that "sticking up" thing...

Truth be told....after the tutorial was done...it was found that the pleated piece is actually ribbed...
but either way is acceptable..

This is what my pleated pieces look like off:

and this is one of the soft helmets I made for a fellow NSB member:

When putting on the headgear...
the pleated piece is then attached to the soft helmet ...
and then the hard helmet is put on...
the effect is the correct "sticking up" look ...

hope that helps...

Also the pleated/ribbed are sewn on backwards(ribbed to the left) they should be ribbed to the right as in movie pic Phyilis posted.

So I'm having a deadline for this now, since I want to use it for a con on the last weekend of April.

The cap that I posted, I changed from a pleated to a ribbed piece on top. It was used as part of this ERT costume

This is my own soft cap

I have a really small head so eventhough I made the pattern a lot smaller it's still too big. Thankfully I have a lot of hair so if I will need to put it up in a high bun, or wear my Endor Leia wig, and then it fits nice. I still haven't added the leather parts though.

I have basically everything else that I need, but it's winter outside and I live in a small apartment, so I haven't been able to spraypaint the BDU pants or snowjacket yet.

So I needed to give myself a kick in the back to finally finish this project. My goal is to have it done this week, or at least before next weekend.

Today I've cut the donut so it will fit me. I also had to seriously alter the soft cap. I could wear the soft cap with my full Leia hairdo in it, but then I couldn't fit the donut over it, so I've made the soft cap a lot smaller, but the alterations are hidden under the ribbed top piece.

This photo shows the best proportions of the helmet to my head

I'm going to put a layer of green paint over the white cut marks, and I need to find a buckle to the chin strap (and cut off the loose threads) but then I'm hopefully done.

Does it look ok?

I got so inspired that I didn't update the thread when I finshed the costume. Here are the pics that I sent in, and I got approved. I'm hoping to add the vest, more pockets and a bandolier with greeblies in the future.

Also the paints used for the camo were bought in a Swedish military surplus store (Röda Stjärnan) and were called DDR Green, Pale Green and Olive Drab. It was a bit hard to get the jackets and trousers totally the same, since they were made out of different fibre they took the tan dye I used very differently.

These are the things I bought, and where I bought them:

Hard helmet - (a friend bought and assembles this, so can't really give more details)
Soft helmet - self made out of fabric from IKEA and leather from an old leather jacket
Sand coloured long sleeve t-shirt - ebay
M40 snow jacket - a great thing with living in Sweden is that a friend more or less stumbled upon three complete M40 snow outfits and bought them. Tan dye for the jacket
BDU trousers - ebay
Camo paint - military surplus store Röda Stjärnan
Gaiters - self made. Same fabric as the soft helmet.
DH-17 gun - nerf blaster from ebay, painted with hobby paints
Gloves - working gloves from ebay. I have small hands so it was impossible for me to find small enough gloves in the shops around here.
Belt - ebay
Pockets - self made with green fabric that I found
canvas back pack - a czech model I found on ebay.co.uk
Boots - Palladium scout commando boots from the Swedish webstore Brandos.
