Thanks Phyllis. I'll let my seamstress know.

I pulled those screencaps from the bluray disc. If you want more I'm happy to post them. Smile

These two have been especially helpful...where we had similar captures...they were from the old DVD and as soon as you tried to make them a little larger...they just got fuzzy ...

and...
yes...
we will always take more...

OK I'll throw in what I know of generic Hoth uniforms. With the soldiers the there are 2 versions of the outfit. The studio shots & the location shots. The studio version has swede boots(Mocassin style), and thinner materials used. The location version has brown "Duck Boots" with nylon Gators on them. The backpack is almost identical to the one for the Endor troops. The Jacket is a treated canvas or nylon blend I think, with matching pants led lights. I don't think they are BDU's but they may be leftover Swiss Mil Surplus. They have a neckline that extends to just under the chin. The Vest is a separate piece. Pay particular attention to where the quilting is on all parts.
The hat is the same construction as the Imperial officer caps but with quilted ear flaps and a little strap in the back to hold the goggles on. The scarf & pouches are a light olive drab. The gloves can be made with a set of gray gardening gloves available at Home Depot and sewing a strip of reenforces fabric for the cuff.
If I think of any other details I'll post them as well. Try and do a search of old posts by Mookie. An archived copy of his reseach thread may still exist.
Are they effective enough?

Are all Hoth Trench Troopers wearing jackets that are quilted on the sleeves below the elbow?

Here's a couple of shots of my costume in progress. As you can see, I went with the layered back. I may die from heat exhaustion but at least I'll die accurately. Razz

I have some shots of me wearing it which I'll post once my seamstress emails them to me.

Cheers!

Beautiful work, Aaron! The hat looks fantastic, too.

I am glad there are others beginning to take up the challenge of this costume as I think we all learn something with each one that gets completed..

I am sure that we all can agree that (for example) current X-Wing pilot costumes look a lot better than the few that the Legion might have started with...
each new costume "journey" adds something to the costume...

When I started my Hoth Trench Trooper
..there was only one other...
and that member was not active...so...I made lots of mistakes cuz I was on the journey alone...

So I got a grey suit for imp. costumes and was very pleased to discover here that it is what is used for the Hanger Trooper I would like to put together, as well. Boots are the same also. SUPER COOL!!!!!! I am going to start, slowly acquiring parts and patterns for this costume.

I have been reading through these pages

A few questions

Is there anyone that offers hard copies of patterns for the soft cap and vest?

I have a question about the goggles. I can find the white smith goggles that have been used but the straps are black or other colors, not white. How can I find or make plain white straps for them? What have others used?

I have black boots that are 15" do they have to have round toes to be accepted at all? The ones I have are not perfectly round.

Two patterns for hats are available...

see "files" section here at:

http://movies.groups.yahoo.com/group/icestationecho/

here is one of the hat tutorials:

Here is the vest tutorial:

Your boots should be fine...

as far as the Smith goggles...
or any goggles...
you remove the straps and replace with regular old 1" wide elastic found at Joanne's or Walmart

I saw the above pair of goggles come up on E-Bay from my saved search of "swan goggles"...that I rarely get any hits on...

these goggles were up for bid and had a "buy it now" for $99.99 on this...
and I hestitated...

he who hesitates is lost...
the next day when I looked...they were sold on Buy it Now..

these are the goggles used by Luke and the Hoth Trench Troopers in the Empire Strikes Back...

and I blew it...
