With Dee's permission I tried a couple things starting from her lovely design, with some of the artwork I made for the Temple of the Howling Moon:

We'll take another look with fresh eyes latter. *salute*

With fresh eyes this morning I like the bottom edge ones most being a little cleaner and more contrast. So if the screen waves are desired that would be bottom right.

Any other ideas/feedback? I'll take another look tonight and see if anything else comes to mind.

I like to bottom right the best

as for any other ideas...
coming up with something with Command is a lot harder than I thought it would be...

if you got a idea of something completely different, we would love to see it.

we try to incorporate the moon in all our logos, but other than that..

I know I'm not going to be a member of this detachment, but I'd have to admit that I am more of a fan of the gray moon than the orange-ish one. With the red Rebel Bird and the moon it might get lost because they are so close in color... Just my 2 pennies.

I'm not a member either, was just asked to help. Wink

*shrug* I made the moon this way on the temple because a lot of the LFL artwork is that color.

The original moon design is brilliant, incorporating the states and what not. I just added the color and some shading.

If the moon is the most important thing and should be isolated from other elements in the design then what I've made is not successful. But as a complete composition there is sufficient contrast and unity to work well as part of the whole.

I take all advice from Michael and Janine seriously as both are artists...

that being said...

art is always subjective I guess...

I think all of the designs are beautiful and that makes it even harder to decide...

let's wait till Beth checks in and see what her thoughts are...

And...it makes sense that Michael made the planet glow
Nar Shaddaa is much like Coruscant in as much as the entire planet is supposed to be a city as well...
not as grand as Coruscant..
but a city no less..
and...
cities are notoriously bright...

Very Happy

I dont think I'll ever be a member of this group, however just adding my 2 creds...

I really like Michaels design, and as phyllis has said, his moon is how it really should look. That being said, since the actual base's logo uses a grey moon, should we tie into this, or how Nar Shaddaa should look.

I think JJ has a good point about the red of the rebel bird and the colors of the moon, a simple way to remedy this would be to scale back the rebel bird so its more like Dee's version, where it doesnt overlap the moon.

Love both of them, like splitting hairs now Mr. Green

Some clarification. I see this as a collaboration rather than a competition, building from Thomas's sketch to Dee's mock-up and what I put together. It is great to have several work together to have something nice that ownership can be shared on.

Also what Phyllis noted is partially correct "art is always subjective I guess... ".

Art or more specifically style is subjective; no question. Deco or Nouveau, neither is right or wrong, just different. Formal design does have a variety of things that are more definitive and some things are more successful than others. With what I did some are style (the colour pallet for example) others are not (the size of the elements, etc). I've added an overlap and adjusted sizes (which is desirable for visual interest) for several reasons. It prevents so much of the composition from being the same size and it creates more of a sense of space and unity as they come together. I could elaborate, but this really isn't the place. I'd be happy to if anyone is curious though.

As noted I began working with the artwork for the Temple of the Howling Moon I did a while back. In both of these I started with the original artwork for the moon (which is brilliant conceptually), just playing with colour and value (meaning grays not monetary worth). The position of the moon here would be a style choice, so if having it at another angle would be better that would be great, do tell. I may have obscured details that should show and that can be sorted no problem.

This is what the two would look like in the forum as currently constituted:

Michael, would you do a version with the grey moon? So they can see how it would look in both colors, side by side.

If Thomas, Phyllis, and Beth would pick one, orange or grey... from there it's really just a matter of tweeking little things to get the best logo possible.
