Hey guys,

Being a newb to the site, I've been searching and trying to figure out my best route for my bucket. I would of preferred getting an APH-6b helmet and modifying it myself, but I can't seem to find an affordable one. I see alot of mention to a helmet kit. I guess what I'm asking is a) how is the quality on them, are they thick or more on the flimsy side and b) when could I get one from?

Nobody seems to be responding to this and I may know why. I'm assuming you wish to make a rebel pilot helmet. I am also assuming you wish to make it look like something used in the original trilogy.

I think the problem with your question is the basis for that helmet was the APH-6B but the APH-6B helmet was not used by the actors in the movies. They used vacu-formed plastic helmets from a mold build from the APH-6B, just like the kits you refer to.

40 years ago, they probably got that helmet off a junk heap. Today its a valuable piece of militaria that would cost you a large sum of money. To modify it would destroy its value and is not necessary to build a rebel pilot helmet just like the ones in the movies.

Q. how is the quality on them, are they thick or more on the flimsy side
A. The film used plastic helmets were not of particularly high quality. Look at the blu-ray. They were wavy, cut differently, asymmetrical pieces of prop art. Most of the movie props were made from styrene. Most of the kits are made from ABS which is going to be stronger and is more durable than styrene. But, its just plastic and won't work as a real helicopter helmet.

Q. when could I get one from?
A. now.

I got one of those helmet kits and though it is more fragile than the Rubies it does look 100% better!

I would go with that kit if I were you but it´s all up to you.
Good luck and hope you get the helmet you want! Smile

PM DarthHair or JediMickey, or MonCal if you want a helmet kit.
