Hey everyone Very Happy
I'm a new user here, from Norway, and I'm trying to make the Sabe Decoy costume Smile
I thought i would use this to show you all what I'm doing and get some input and such. Laughing
and I have already read the standards for this costume, and i was wondering about the riding boots, wheter they needed to be in leather or if it is possible to have some in fauxleather or if I could just use rubber ones? I'm not really sure about the standard for those Razz

So I'm already trying to get fabric from different shops, I'm waiting for some samples to come by mail, so when i start my sowing i'll post some pictures:D

Leather or faux leather work. Rubber boots aren't acceptable, though.

Good luck on this costume! It's one of my favorites and very rarely done.

Best wishes on your decoy! I assume you mean the battle decoy, since you're referring to boots. Smile

neimhaille started a thread about this costume that I ended up piggybacking onto here:
http://www.rebellegion.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=25494

It has a little bit of what I did (and some of what I've learned not to do), and suggestions from others during the build.

Do you have your fabrics?

Yeah I saw both of yours before i started my thread Very Happy
your costumes were great looking^^

I haven't recived any fabric in the mail yet:/ but i'm headed out to a fabric store sometime during this week, so hopefully i'll get to start sowing soon Smile

But what I'm most worried about is the "crown/headpiece"! But I've bought some paperclay to make the tiara, and then i'm going to use some wires and such to make the headpiece itself Very Happy

I'll post pictures once i get things and start working Very Happy

I've gotten a couple of new fabric samples Smile

This one is a really good fit for the red "silk-ish" fabric on the dress!!

And i got two fabric samples for the black tunic part of the dress!!

This one is darker than the colour of the picture, it i black, but looks grey in this picture Smile

This one is more purple than black, but is quite similar to the original pattern, but it cannot be coloured!!

What do you guys think of these?? will any of them pass the inspection?? Very Happy

The bottom one seems a little too sheer, not sure on the top black sample.

I think something with a little more substance to it; how about something like this?

The original is pretty sheer in between the raised areas, and anything can be dyed Smile If that fabric is polyester you can use iDye Poly tomake it black. You can get very intense colours.

That said I do like that first fabric in terms of the raised areas Smile

Oh and given the sheeness and the stifness over the shoulder in the original I really recommend using heavy net as an interlayer Smile I used a light cotton buckram (actually just a sheer cotton with some sizing) on my first and just net on the second Smile

Good luck Smile It's still one of my all time favourites I just don't thnk I can get away with being mistaken for a 14 year old again Wink

I may be testing out this theory myself again Smile The fabric I used for the two versions I made has now become available again! In dark brown and olive green. Hmmm. I think they are acrylic but may be polyester. I am happy to test dye a sample as soon as I can get my hands on some idye poly. Also more than happy to buy and dye fabric for anyone if it works, or buy and leave to dye Smile

It will be in the new year given the madness of the shopping season right now Wink
