LOVE it Mark, thanks for doing this, it's a great reference for pilots looking for paint schemes, so I'm going to sticky it up at the top. Eventually we might move it to the Tutorial section.

Great photos! Mr. Green I am certainly inspired to design my future helmet, but for now it must wait. Too many costumes...

If we're going to use these as reference, then it needs to be stated that the Wes Janson paint scheme is wrong.

It should be red & gray, although I swear its more red & pink on the blu-ray.

Thanks for sharing.
Hoping a post can be made pointing out what exact colors were used for each helmet.
ex. Red Leader's helmet color is what type of yellow?
John D's helmet is what shade of red? etc.

This is something I shared on at my base, but thought I'd be good to share:

Some interesting observation on researching the film helmets- almost looks like a few different kits, if nothing else maybe it's just in the trimming? Thought I'd provide an easy run down of the canon helmets though (surprised there isn't something like this, but with more views of each- toys are decent references). Another good source, but only for a few, is Star Wars Helmets.

The biggest difference to note is to look at the eye area to take into consideration when trimming your kit, some appear to be trimmed straight along the helmet while some taper out, some actually cut into the helmet, giving them a "wide screen" view, you'll see right away as I go down the roster. Maybe I'm just imagining it?

Yavin pilots

Red Leader - Garven Dreis "Boss" - his lines are generally straight, rounded corners (but at a tight 90 degree turn)

Red Two - Wedge Antilles - first one with cut over the rounded ear area? Also notice the more elongated rounding of the top corners

Red Three - Biggs Darklighter- tapers out more, almost 90 degree edges, the polygon by the eyes is more prominent

Red Four - John D. Branon, also Lt. Naytaan depending on your sources, this is one I'm considering, Tony the Tiger in space

Red Five - Luke Skywalker... hit the first link above for refences, plenty out there

Red Six - Jek Porkins "Piggy" - more gradual curves at the top

Red Seven - no photos = no screen time

Red Eight - Bren Quersey - one of our "generic" blue and whites

Red Nine - the OTHER Lt. Naytaan - no photos

Red Ten - Theron Nett - he's also got what looks like the wide screen view going?

Red Eleven - Wenton Chan - is it just me or does his mohawk cap just look like a piece of tape? He's also got the smoke lenses, and no door trim! (must have been the "extra" laying around, or a rush job)

Red Twelve - no photos

Gold Leader - Jon Vander "Dutch"

Gold Two - Tiree

Gold Three - another blue helmet

Gold Four - Lepira - no screen helmet, but he's flexible Laughing

Gold Five - Davish Krail "Pops"- who constantly reminds us all to "stay on target" and keep plugging away Cool Also- unique chin strap?!

Gold Six - red or blue generic

Battle of Hoth

Rouge Two - Zev Senesca

Wes Janson

Fun fact- also stepped in to take a bullet for Red Ten and died at the Battle of Yavin (well his helmet did anyway)... Shocked

Dack Ralter - generic blue, I'd say these guys are kind of the equivalent to Star Trek's no named red shirts, but everyone usually dies except for Wedge Razz

Endor pilots

Grizz Frix - looks suspiciously like Gold Leader's helmet, just beat up, and the mohawk coarsely painted black

Keir Santage - final example of the different cuts at the eye line

Tycho Celchu - not from the screen, but all the references have the same helmet

One other source for some photos, as well as decals! Good ol' Wookieepedia

This was fun to research, enjoy!

Nice pics, but I'm not convinced the "cuts" you're pointing out are actually missing. They could easily be that one surface painted black combined with poor lighting.

I'd definitely recommend NOT cutting away anything from your helmet until we have additional (and clearer) evidence.

Fantastic compilation of pics and reference material, thanks so much!

We only have 3 xwing pilots in our base currently, but this year are looking to do a big run and grow the squadron. We're all looking forward to individualising our helmets too so this is great!

Thanks again everyone!!
