I will be attending the panel. I do like the ideas that have come about and I'm looking forward to meeting all of the DB 94 attendees. Safe travels everyone!

I'm about to download everything I need and will probably setup the presentation tomorrow evening.

Bear in mind that hurricane isaac is coming in, with another tropical storm coming in behind it. current forecast says that the eye of the storm will be in miami monday morning at 3am. If the storm gets too bad we'll be leaving early. Everyone else should make plans to leave early.

I would consider our panel a huge success. We had a nice group of people (considering the other con events that were scheduled at the same time) who really seemed to enjoy the presentation - and all the free stuff the SW University ladies were handing out since we were the last panel of the last day Laughing .
Matt did a wonderful job kind of leading the direction with the power point (which was very nicely done, Blair Wink ). Bob and Steve added some excellent expertise regarding the Han costumes especially, and Bob with the Wookiee costumes as well. And me - I was the comedy relief/storyteller which I hope added to the overall presentation.

Excellent job to everyone involved!!

I would agree with this Bob.

I would also with Chris, we did have a very successful panel.

Great job everyone!!! Falcon Dance Chewie

The panel was pretty good. I would have to say that chris was our secret weapon. His speech st the end was quite moving, and his"ooooohh!"remark brought down the house.

The biggest problem we had was way too much content and no real q&a time.

I would say next time we ought to do just three costumes and be finished with our presentation by the halfway point and just be pure q&a after that. The jedi did that and it seemed to work well.

Thanks Matt.
For those that weren't there.....

1) Jada was showing a photo of Mark Bradley's "Tatooine inhabitant" costume and explained that Mark's screen name was Rando Mextra, which if you move the M, it becomes Random Extra (see what he did there!! Laughing ). I honestly had wondered for some time where Mark got that name from, and when it clicked, I couldn't help letting out an "OOOHHHH" (yes, it was exaggerated for effect - I told you guys I was there to be the comedy relief!!) Cool

2) As I was listening to the panel wrap up, I was trying to decide how we should put a nice little bow on this whole presentation, so I ad-libbed something like this....

"There are probably some of you who have listened to us and are thinking that what we do is something you are interested in participating in. If that is the case, you can go to rebellegion.com and find out more (Matt put in a plug for the DB94 website as well).
There are probably others of you who are wondering what in the world is wrong with these people!! Why would they take all the time, effort, money, etc. to put these accurate costumes together and then spend their own money to go around to events. Well I'll speak for myself, but I guarantee you the rest of the members here will have similar stories. I've been a part of raising millions of dollars for charities. I've been to hospital visits and had a 30 year hospital worker tell me she has NEVER seen the kids there react to anyone the way they reacted to us. So if you're wondering if what we do is worth it all, I'll leave you with this....
When I have a 4 year old little girl who is in the hospital for leukemia treatments get out of her bed, make her grandma wheel her IV pole down the hospital hallway, and hurry to catch up with you so she can give Chewie a hug - you tell me if it's worth it or not!!"

I thought it was a nice way to wrap up our presentation if I do say so myself. Wink

I just wanted to say I attended the " Costuming on the Fringe Side of the Rebellion" panel on Sunday and needless to say it was the BEST most informative panel of CBVI!!

To prove it how great it was: literally in less than 24 hours of the panel, I was home (back in Las Vegas), I had built a home-made hackle, bought kanekalon braiding hair (#27, #4 and #44), laundry basket mesh and a latch hook tool. I started testing how to attach hair by late afternoon.

To be honest I pick things up quickly and have worked on costumes before, but never have I just listened to a panel for 1 hour and came away with that much knowledge. The only downside is Chris and Matt (and the others) will definitely be on my radar for Chewbacca resource building. Of course I'll research as much as possible, but sometimes you just have to send that PM Wink

One last thing, what really added that extra inspiration for me is when Chris Blackstock explained "Is it really worth it?", by telling the story of how children (especially the sick children in hospitals) get so much joy from seeing Chewbacca visit them (or any Star Wars character) that truly put my costuming back in high gear.

Again, thanks to everyone on this panel. Usually that Sunday leaving a Star Wars Celebration is really depressing to me. To end it with that panel, fully energized, ready to work on my old (and new) costumes was truly worth it!

I will agree Chris wrapped up the panel extremely well!

There is a ton of info out there and here at the Fringe we are always more than happy to help.

The first and most important step… read, read, and then…. read some more!

Smile

I am so glad to hear all the positive feedback from the panel. You guys ROCK (and gals too)!

Does anyone have any pics or video to post to include in this thread and for us to post on the DB94 Site?
