Hello Star Wars Volunteers!

Thank you so much for your patience while we sorted out the Star Wars Reads Day Events. I’m thrilled to report that we have over 1200 events booked for October 6th!

(That’s a secret for now—we’ll be announcing it via press release soon).

While some of you have been contacted by stores (primarily those holding author events), most everyone else has been waiting to receive the event map. And I’m relieved to say that it’s finally here:

http://batchgeo.com/map/33cb869fe9a9f9132a788a6ba3a4451b

Please feel free to share this with your members, but this isn’t quite ready for the public just yet. You all get to see it first.

I’m also attaching a list of Barnes and Noble stores (many who are hosting authors). These are going to be big events, so if we could get volunteer coverage in those locations, we’d love it.

NEXT STEPS:

1. Please share the map and relevant B&N locations with your members.

2. Sort out who would like to cover which events. A few factors to consider:

a. We’d love to get as much coverage at as many events as possible. (Within reason—we all know that you’re volunteers and your time is precious.)

b. For the very motivated, we’d love to get coverage at multiple events that are clustered closely together. For example, the B&N from 10-11, and then the local library from 12-1. I know that is complicated with some of the more complex costumes—but for the easier-to-travel costumes, we thought we’d throw it out there! We do have times listed for many events, but we are happy and willing to change them according to your schedules. Especially if it means more volunteers attending more events!

3. Email me at rachel.kempster@dk.com with the store(s) and times that your group(s) can troop. At that time I will put you directly in contact with the store so that you can handle final details with them. Note that stores will be well briefed on how to respectfully and safely handle volunteers—you will have the space and security you need to do what you do! The sooner I know this the better—but I understand it can take some time. Please get me all of your event choices by August 27th.

Reminder—all the publishers will be making a significant book donation on behalf of ALL participating volunteer organizations. Everyone who volunteers will receive an exclusive Star Wars Reads Day shirt. We’re making them specifically for YOU, the volunteers, in a limited run of 2k t-shirts. We’ve also decided to hold a raffle for volunteers—details to come, but the prizes will be 5 very cool SWRD kits filled with swag, books, and other fun SW goodies.

Finally—THANK YOU ALL!! You all have been so patient and helpful throughout the entire process so far, and I personally appreciate it. For those of you coming to CVI, please stop by the DK Booth and say hello. I’ll be there throughout the show, and I’d love to meet you.

Best,

Rachel

So excited for this. Not sure if I'll be in State College or Eastern PA that weekend, but regardless my schedule is cleared for this!

Updates to all members the choices need to be made by Aug 27, (I know Dragon Con), its so that we have time to contact the location a confirm. Also for the locations to be active (appearances) a limit of 2 to 3 members must confirmed to appear.

The B&N at 91 Old Country Road Carle Place NY 11514 is around the corner from me...

And I have done the Pottery Barn Kids before at Roosevelt Field at 630 Old Country road (a mile from me).

The only one we have on the ECG schedule is Yonkers...

Jarred pm Mark and Mia and see if they are open. I'm sure Harrisburg will be a natural choice.
