I made a prototype of my holster this evening... It's made of scrap upholstery vinyl from a couch my parents had many years ago, and obviously the wrong color, but it was very helpful in planning the real one.

Worst case scenario is that this one is spray-painted black and worn to Celebration, but I don't think it will come to that.

Everything is super glued together. The stitches are mostly aesthetic, but they probably provide some reinforcement.

Lessons learned:

Make the opening for the barrel a bit bigger (it fits, but is difficult)
Fit tighter around the trigger guard
Make the back leg strap longer

Wow! Good job!
It looks great.

How did you manage the stripes for the pants?

Stripes are the iron-on kind from eBay, on full-seat breeches... Or they will be, since the pants haven't arrived yet.

If I decide to get different pants, I'll use pre-embroidered strips.

I spent the evening working on the shirt and holster. I need to buy a few snaps for the holster, but otherwise it's done.

Just a few pieces left to do for the shirt, but it's mostly done.

The holster is now completely finished. I may seal the edges, but it's definitely usable.

It's made with about half of two pieces of 8.5x11-inch black leather patch from Michael's, and half of one piece of thicker, unfinished leather. The belt is just an off-the-rack belt with a Tandy buckle.

It's not entirely accurate, but it's enough for me. There aren't any really good references, and the standards are pretty loose.

So, the pants that I ordered, and specifically said I needed by August 10, asking if I should pay for express shipping and was told standard would be fine, are marked with an expected arrival of September 3.

Not terribly happy about that.

So, does anyone have a good tip for off-the-shelf pants I can buy? I find a lot of good-looking breeches online, but no one explains the sizing, and from what I've read, every brand has their own system. I'm guessing most of them are just inches, but I'm not sure.

[EDIT] The pants arrived, believe it or not. They are a bit darker than the picture, though. Does anyone have suggestions for lightening them?

I can't say what the cause was, but my pants are now the correct shade of brown. It was somewhere between a hot wash, a day in the sun, and a tiny amount of bleach.

The problem is that the inner panels (inner leg, I mean) are blue. They weren't noticeable before, but after lightening, they are. I'm going to stop in to Joann's later and see if I can find some brown dye, and get the two halves to match. Worst case, I bleach them down to the natural color and dye the whole thing brown. I would prefer not to do that, but I'll do what I must. Right now, the pants are ESB Han on the outside, ANH on the inside. They don't have the seam or tuck for Han, but color and fit are perfect.

Thanks for the compliment.

My awesome jacket, shirt, and pants were custom made by my talented girlfriend Leah D'Andrea.

My blaster is a resin kit from the RPF.

My boots were a lucky flea market find. Faux-leather/rubber equestrians for $5. Yes, five bucks.

Leah and I made the leather holster and belt from scratch. Tandy Leather FTW!

I'll be wearing this costume during the legion photo shoot at CVI. Come say hello!

I could make those out of leather and have them ready by CVI if you place your order today. They only run $65 and you could pick them up at CVI.

There was a thread for a run of the Leia blaster from ANH (which is the same as Luke's ceremonial one):

I'm helping my husband with one of these and finding some good tips in this thread. One thing I am stuck on though is the black shirt. Any advice on where to get one, patterns to use, or ways to alter an existing shirt/pattern?
