I got two WIPs overlapping and confused, so I'm moving one here for clarity.
We had a bit of trouble tracking down a Simplicity pattern. However, one of the "Padawan's Guide" tutorials (the obi/tabard tutorial had this rough image that we went off.
First we copied the measurements off the guide, making them longer as we're both tall. Here's Foxtom, who will be a blue Healer Jedi, making the patterns.
He's drawing them onto Kimguard, a tough polypropylene cover that we use as wrapping for sterile trays. No good for a costume, but great as a tough reusable pattern.
Below is him modelling the tacked together trial.
And a close up of the shoulder, trialling the tucked in approach suggested by the tutorials. I think this is only required for the outer tunic.

I think it is going well from what we see of the images, best part it looks like the material will give you a good stencil for making quality costumes for the local RL |
I had another look through the Padawan's guide and it seems that the same lady put up different patterns for inner tunics, cloaks and obi. So I've sent them to Foxtom and we will be making more patterns from the same material. More than happy to help out fellow RL, of course, patterns are such a pest to get right. We will be making test tunics out of cloth to see how it goes on fabric as a next step.

Here's a trial outer tunic made from cotton.

Here is the Obi pattern from The Padawan's guide.
And here is the Kimguard pattern we made from them. Back view.
We have been very impressed at how the patterns have come together. The thing I love about this obi is that it is traditional and wearable, as in it was what Jedi (and Samurai) were likely to wear, rather than just a rectangle of cloth with velcro for screen magic or a basic costume. Coming from a mediaevalist background, I'm fairly pedantic about these things, and Thomas is Austrian, with a cultural insistence on precision... We have been pulling each other up and refusing to let each other take shortcuts at every step of the way. Rest assured, there will be no Dickies in this costume!
Here is the same back view in cotton.
And a front view.
And here with a twin belt mock-up
Really happy with how it's coming together.
I've gone a long way in researching this costume...
This is in Kathmandu, Nepal...
This is in Kyoto, Japan...

The Padawan's Guide patterns are drawn for a 5'5" female, so we've been lengthening the patterns at all stages to accommodate our 6'3" frames. The Tabard design is shown in the first post, this is the first time that we ignored her design and copied a tabard from a costume that Sviw had lent us for reference, that had an even curve along the length rather than the wriggle that the Padawan's guide had included to compensate for... Female chest anatomy.
Front view. (Please ignore T-shirt, )
Back view.
This costume will be worn by a combatant Jedi, so the obi overlap will be stitched closed much higher in the final design, so that it stays in place while duelling. No Velcro on the shoulders for us, thanks! _________________ Until our next happy meeting!

We started this build simply as a test piece for making the patterns for our Jedi. We used top quality green cotton for testing simply because we had a lot of it left over from another project. However, in the amount of time and effort that we have put into this costume already, the best test of our work is to carry it through to completion and approval. Reading the colour tutorials, green Jedi are usually Corellians being nationalistic about their planetary culture... Hence;
"A Corellian Jedi" is in progress!
The next stage is the inner tunic. Back to the Padawan's Guides...
This is a good idea, and we have made up kimguard templates for it, but for simplicity sake, we went with the below design.
Here is the completed inner tunic, showing length of sleeve and overlap. We have gone back and taken in the width a bit since this shot.
Below is a closeup showing the cuff and collar detail.

Leather work, a favourite old pair of boots;
And a matching black belt with a bit of a mismatch, Old Republic covertec clip and New Republic belt buckle, permittable under the new generic Jedi rules, of course.
If this pouch is acceptable as "In universe"'I will make another to match it for the "two pouches" rule. _________________ Until our next happy meeting!

Don't forget about the tutorials here on our own forums. Some have already used the Simplicity patterns and modified them for screen accuracy Using those would be a lot less work, since a lot of the redesign has already been done. _________________ Past Offices held within the Rebel Legion: LMO, Asst. Things are looking great so far!
I do have one tip for that obi though, as I've used
that same pattern.
The diagonals tend to flap over the belt, so
I added some velcro to keep them in place.
Also, you might want to check if those boots are
tall enough. _________________ mTm |

Thanks for the tips!
We are pretty far advanced at this stage to significantly change patterns, and on my first look through the tutorials here I hadn't found anything as helpful as the Padawan's guide, and thought that they were the only option short of buying simplicity and modifying them. After you mentioned other tutorials, SithariRog, I had another look and found another... That you may have some biased preference for! We have already modified the Padawan's guide ones extensively, as we are 6'3 slim males and the PG patterns are apparently designed for a 5'5" buxom lady. We have almost finished the tabards but we shall discuss modifying them based on your design.
Mihunai, a main aim of our costume is to have no Velcro. We have interface stiffening in the main body of the Obi, if you have found that a problem in that area we shall see if we can extend the interface to stiffen that area. Thank you for the warning. Speaking of warnings, how high should the boots be, is there a minimum guideline? They are 13" high, and I was about to order others the same height online with a different shape and brown.
Generic Jedi Costume Standards wrote: | 8. Brown or Black Boots – Leather or leather-like; must rise at least to the calf, but not above the knee. |
The boots seem to suit the above standard, I shall post another pic wearing them, though.
(Edit; you may well be right! Had another look and it may not reach standard. Thank you for the warning, I was about to order brown boots a similar size!
Please note I've added photos to the inner tunic post above.
Thanks, Fyr _________________ Until our next happy meeting!

We've added in Tabards. We didn't use the Padawan's guide for these ones, as they are designed for female chest anatomy... Instead we used Anakin's leather Tabards from a costume that Swiv lent us for comparison.
Rear view;
And front, showing the layers really coming together well.
As you can see, most of the sewing on this costume is done.
Inner Tunic - Complete
Outer Tunic - 90% (Shoulder tuck is giving us trouble)
Obi - Complete
Tabards - 95%
Robe - 10%
Belt - Pending
Pouches - 50%
Boots - Pending
Food Capsules - Ordered
Covertec Clip - Complete _________________ Until our next happy meeting!

Thank you both.
What do you think about the Tabards crossing over at the back? I like that look and it fits the shoulders better.
