So I'm planning a generic Jedi costume for my first. I see that "Any blade color other than red/black/" is allowed, so a pink blade should be fine, yes?

It should. I'm no costume judge but the standards say any color but red or black so pink should be ok.

I suppose if it was clearly pink, though I'm unfamiliar with any reference on that (please share if you have some).

The tendency would would be to look like a slightly dim red blade and as you note red isn't allowed.

There is no reference I've ever heard of someone using a pink saber. I would say to stir clear of anything too close to red. Maybe violet instead of pink?

in the expanded universe, SWTOR offers a pink saber crystal as optional endgame content, but other than that I can't think of any time I've seen it done.

Do you think that shade would be alright, it looks pretty clearly non-red to me.

that is, I´m sad to report: Darth Vader pink.

Yeap. you read it right. I was in a very serious discussion a couple of years ago about the right color for Darth Vader´s Lightsaber and his saber is in FACT pink... not red.... pink. Look at the movies and you´ll see I´m right. the white plasma core washes the red so much that the colored border turns pink.

So it seems Sithlords have 2 tones of lightsabers... Red and Pink. Maul and the emperor used red and Vader used Pink...

sorry... Laughing

The game calls it Magenta

I've got one.

Do the standards seriously say no black sabers?

... it's not even POSSIBLE

Well, there are black Poly-C blades, that give a black edge
around a coloured core, and some interesting results have
been achieved by adding a single piece of black
tape along the length, to darken one side of the blade.
That way you =do= get a black core, although it only
works from one angle....

the reason that the standards say no black, is, I believe, because you can get a black saber in the Force Unleashed game. So, to avoid a rush of black sabers, the standards say no to those Smile

the difference being that's only a core, instead of a "black blade" which isn't possible because light doesn't work that way.

Most of the attempts I've seen are... lackluster though.

Moving on! Game calls Pink Magenta, not Pink.

Really? I'd have to go rewatch my dvd to be sure (what a horrible thought =P) but alright, I can accept that as a valid reason.

Pink is just light red, and the general public would think it's red, and would ask you why you have Vader's lightsaber.

It's all about perception.

Agreed. People has the pink colore saber Vader used in the OT as red but in fact it is pink... terrible but true. I fought against it for days to no end against my CO (it started as a joke because I have a Darth Vader costume in the 501st and I wanted a luxeon upgrade to avoid the pinky blade and he kept saying that then it wouldn't be accurate becaus ethe movie blade was in fact pink LOL)

When the movie was retouched the color was made to look more red toned but still in a lot of scenes, specially in the bespin facility figh scenes you'll see the color of Vader's blade to be pink...

Perhaps he was subconsciously letting people know he was a softie underneath? LOL

Granted..in some shots the corona looks an orange-ish red hue but about 85% of the shots the plasma core of the blade is pink... not even white but solid pink while the corona is a more solid pink- to orange red

yeah... It kills me everytime... Crying or Very sad
