I just went into my stash and have cut five trim pieces that will finish off a pilot helmet neck. It is simply automotive door edge guard, I had to buy a huge roll to do a couple of helmets. Yup, the stuff isn't as cheap as it should be.

I also have plenty of the microphone wire shown above in my older post.

If anyone in the conus wants some, I can mail you the trim, the wire or both, and the wire will include some heat shrink tubing to cover it if you desire. Tell me the length of wiring you want, everyone has a different need.

$3 for the trim mailed, $3 for the wire and tubing, $5 for both. I think those are very fair prices. If you agree, pm me for info.

(Mark, if you consider this a hi-jack let me know and I'll move it)

And I'm out of trim and such. Hopefully I helped some of those new helmets get finished.

Ordered up a helmet and can't wait to put this tutorial to use.

This is the trim I'll be using, had some left over from another project. I'm assuming it's going to work, but feel free to let me know if it's not the right stuff.

Hi there, I have a technical question abbout the helmet, I am building one right now and since I have a very small head, it is said that I can reduce the width of the mohawk strip for a better fit. right now, 1¼" is a good fit for me but is it acceptable? Is it too narrow? What's the limit without ruining the overall look of the helmet.?

Thank you Very Happy

A future X-Wing Pilot

What's the mohawk width on the kit you're using right now? (varies slightly depending on kit)

I would leave the mohawk as it is and add some extra to where the ear cups are.

Already tried that and the result is...worst. But thank's for the sugestion. I finaly reduced the mohawk to abbout 1¾" and it looks ok. I will try to post a picture of the completed helmet.

Thank's to those who answerd me. Razz

Simple question, I need a new X wing helmet. Whose best person to buy it from?
Boots too.

Hey Bernie, glad to see you upgrading. Your best bet is to probably try PMing darthhair here on the RL boards. He's been having a good rep lately with decent turnaround times and prices.

For boots, you're just going to have to search the internet. The jackboots are becoming harder to find so a lot of pilots are turning to engineer boots and removing the straps.

Good luck!

Darth Hair hasnt replied to my PM in about 4 days now, so give me a hypothetical: If I spend the $175 for a completed helmet from Richies Armor, will it work or not?

Just read on Jeffs (Darthair) chestbox posts that he was really ill last year (hernias) so maybe he's still out of sorts at mo.
