Weathering makes a clone, that's for sure. Shiny clones are cannon fodder. Laughing

I'm afraid I don't know the different clones, but it looks good so far & why not? BUT test on a scrap piece first to make sure it is the effect you are going for ...

I think it would look great, like you'd been slogging through mud, but Gina's right - test it first. I've had a couple of times where things didn't exactly look like I thought they would. Sometimes you can fix it, other times all you can do is something else to try and cover it up.

Don't worry about weathering until the whole build is finished.

Then try and weather it together, as a single unit. All too often, folks weather one piece at a time and it comes out looking wrong because weathering doesn't match from part to part.

Don't use a lot of mud colors unless you have reference pics to prove it.

Here is roughly the order you should do a clone in: Build it. Make it seamless. Get your suspension system working. Trim and cut to fit for mobility until you can both walk up/down stairs and put your bucket on/off. Give it the full paint job. Then weather. Trim and fit again until you can completely both walk up/down stairs and put your bucket on/off.

That's my lessons learned from building 3 separate clones.

I agree that Clones should not be Shiny. I have an EPIII Grunt. The base color is flat white, Krylon Fusion. I then used primer grey and did a misting over the low areas in the armor. Use a 220 sanding sponge and lightly sand away the areas that don't need the grey and lightly go over the areas that will still have some. This will leave a dirty look where dirt and crap would collect.

I also used a second technique which was more for splatter effect. I used acrylic paint, burnt umber and black, and watered each down with glass cleaner. Keeping he colors seperate. Then using a paper towel you dip into the color and do small wipes or dabs onto the armor where you want splatter to go. Use a dry paper towel and dab the wet area. You will get a cool effect.

The other thing to consider is where your Clone has seen action. If he has been on Falusia match the colors your using for the splatter. It adds a nice touch.

Good luck with your build and I hope you can drop some pics when your done.
