I have a question about the chest box buttons. I don't see anywhere in the standards or other references I've come across since I decided to start a pilot kit to the three white buttons on the tops of Luke's and Biggs' chest boxes in ANH.

Did I miss something, or are they an optional item? Confused

I have to think back, but I believe that was a fairly recent discovery... I have a box made by Mr. Bojangles, and he puts that detail on all of his boxes.

I'd put it on your Chestbox since it's such an easy detail to put on. Thumbs up

Thanks Gil!

I was going to make it a part of my construction anyway since it added to the reasoning about why there was a protrusion on the top of the box.

Funny how I noticed it. I thought at first that it was a reflection, but when Luke turned away there was no change in the location of the buttons or their appearance. So I took a close look at both the deleted Biggs scene and Luke climbing into his X-Wing. That confirmed that they really were buttons.

I'm working on my gauntlet gloves today. Found a cheap ladies glove leather jacket second hand and tore it apart last night to get the gauntlet material. Now I have to make a pattern for the shape then cut and sew.

Also got up this morning first thing and dyed my boots black. Glad to have that messy job out of the way.

If you know of any pattern measurements for the amount of fabric used in the flak vest, it would be appreciated.
Cool

Judging by the screen caps I've seen, in A New Hope Wedge wears the same box that is later used for Zev Senesca in Empire Strikes Back. Were I to do a costume for Wedge (I think he's my best match for hair/eyes) and seek to join the Rebel Legion would the costume be approved with this chestbox (obviously other issues notwithstanding)?

I think it's a more striking design with the multiple colors, and it has precedence in the films.

Currently the RL Standards for face character pilots don't call out for specific chestbox button color patterns, however, face character pilots MUST have the correct helmet paint scheme.

Looking though some screen caps, something I just noticed about some of the chestboxes... It appears that a number of them have two thin (approx 1/4" - 3/8") white stripes about 2" long running up the right side of the box near the bottom. You can see them here, on the two pilots right-most facing the camera, and again here in more definition as one of the extra pilots climbs into his snow-speeder. I'm not certain if these are only found on the generic boxes, or if they also appear on some of the face-character boxes as well.

edit: It would appear that at least some face characters got these stripes as well. Seen here, on Red Leader before the battle of Yavin.

I imagine we'll be seeing a whole host of new details once the Blu-rays come out.

Haha, yep.

Here's Red Leader's chest box. Didn't see one quite like this in the beginning of the thread. Looks like all three are straight sloped buttons.
