I beleive I have all of the items needed to put an X wing pilot costume together. I am confused and have a couple of questions on which side, where and how to attached the chest box. The pics that I have seen show ANH luke going to right, but I have seen a lot a members pics going to the left.
Any help on this will be greatly appreciated!

Thanks, Dave

Got it, so it goes to the right. What methods and partys have you and other members used to attach it to the flight suit?

Are you talking about the chest box... or the hose? Your post says only chest box.

From your response I think it may be the hose.

Some people use magnets some people just tuck it up under the white vest. I think there were some scenes where it was just stuffed into a pocket. And it is not necessarily right or left. It is seen both ways in the movies.

I just have mine going under the vest and pinned to the inside left side.

Lukes boots in that pic look really tall - more like a riding boot and less like an engineer boot. Are both types of boots acceptable?

If you want it to look really good and stay in place, magnets are the way to go.

These are neomydium magnets epoxied to a metal washer. I sewed this into a small pocket on the inside of the suit.

This is the end of the hose, and I epoxied a metal washer into it.

Don't use craft magnets, or stainless steel washers.

I have (Chippewa model 27909) 17 inch tall boots, I just pull the pants legs down over the boot to make them look shorter. I also cut the strap and buckle off of them.

This photo is a pre-production shot and it's not entirely accurate. The hose going to the right side is not typically what we see on screen in the movies. All of the movie screen grabs I have of Luke as well as most of the other pilots show the hose going to the left side.
The only time I've really seen the hose going to the right on screen is at the end of ROTJ in the Ewok celebration scene where Wedge Antilles' chest box hose is seen going to the right.

Ignore that photo.

Hose on the "wrong" side - As pointed out, you can only find 1 or 2 examples of it on the left, and that may be due to the negative being flipped. The editors did that a lot - "When we heard about Alderran we feared the worst..." Look carefully, suddenly Han is left handed!

Vest on backwards - only seen in ESB when worn over the heavy jacket.

Mutant flap over commpad (never seen anywhere else)

Belt worn sideways - Buckle should be centered (or near center)

Wrong boots - too tall.

I use magnets also:

Stayed in place through all of CV. You can get a 10 pack of these at Harbor Freight for less that $2.

I have a hose end that attaches to my flightsuit with magnets. I feel this is the best looking route to go, but there are other alternatives.

Some people do what Gil does, some people tuck it under their belt (this tends to look bad, but people do it), another option is to tuck the end in your leg pocket like a snowspeeder pilot.

two more shots with the hose going to the left side..
(same side as the rocker switches on the box so you can tell if the image is flipped)

For the record, the hose can go either way as we've enough support for each. There are also action figures that have it going to either side. (Official stance)

And as for boots. Standard height is around 13". If you have taller, blouse your pantlegs accordingly.
