http://www.exploration.org/starwars.html

We had a couple who were going to come down with us to watch the parade and go through the exhibit. Most importantly they were going to watch the parade with our little Padwan. But they bailed out on us and we are now kind of in a bid.

We are in the parade and all we need is someone who will be at the parade to watch it with Liam. Since he isn't able to be in it. Anyone going to be there watching it that could do this for us? He's a year old and super sweet. It scares me to death to even consider a stranger but if he's there in the open with other Star Wars fans I would feel 10% better Confused

Thanks

Not sure where my other post went. Must have done something trying to reply back on my phone.

I sent them an email so will let you know when I hear back. We only have a few members that are planning on going so we may need to out to the 501st as well.

Her name is on the list as one of the handlers on the web site for folks that are part of the parade.

Thank you again for all this help you have no clue how much it means to us!

Hey Dena... I talked to Sarah (she can't get on the boards very well from work) about this.

Even before this, we were concerned about the long wait time between when we're supposed to arrive and when the parade starts (3 hours or more?) being too much for our daughter to stay occupied, so Sarah was planning on keeping her occupied with the hotel pool and just come over for the parade closer to when it starts. That said, it's a strange town to us (we've only ever been to Wichita a couple times briefly) and she's leery enough about getting around, but more so she's not comfortable transporting a 1-year-old in a strange city; nor does she want to have to remain in the hotel even during the parade (even if she can't be in it, she's taking a day off work to come down and would like to watch and photograph it).

I'm sorry, we have kids too and that means we have trooping conflicts all the time too. And unfortunately since Dantooine Base has virtually no presence directly in Wichita, we don't even have a lot of 'civilian' contacts we can hit up... if it were Kansas City I could call in favors from a lot of different friends but not so down there. I presume you know Jen Angel and Kerry Ellison, the local 501st people that have been reaching out to get folks in for this? They may be your best bet for that kind of help, getting local non-member friends that might be game for helping out...

Sorry Sad I Hope something works out.

I completely understand. Taking off work and traveling down ourselfs for this. We had this planned out for a month now and just last week had our friends telling us how much fun we were going to have watching the parade and they were going to take pictures for us as well and just yesterday they came to us and said they now can't afford to go now. And it's like seriously huh how in the world are we going to find someone in this short amount of time to watch him now.

Thank you all!

I know this is a real shot in the dark, but you know what they say about desperate times...

Some cities have 'by the hour' day care centers... I don't know if Wichita does or not though, I've only ever heard of them around casinos and towns with lots of military installations... We have a friend that used to be stationed in San Antonio and she would use one of these in a pinch... With them you at least know they're accredited by the state...

I honestly hope that you find someone to watch your little one for you. I know it's a pain and I can't count how many times one or both of us have had to drop out of a troop due to having sitters fall through or not being able to get one in the first place.
We usually take turns 'sitting' out with our kids. This time it's my turn and I know down the road Bart will sit out on an event so that I can troop too. Sacrifice just comes with the territory when you have kids and are trying to troop.
I hope you guys have a great weekend in Wichita! Smile

Dena,

I almost had you my sitter but she's going to be marching in the parade as well. I'll keep looking to see what I can find for you down here.
