We took a Civil War pattern and heavily modified it so really doesn't look like the pattern that we bought. However, my seamstress had to back out because of family issues so I got a bunch of fabric, a pattern but no seamstress.

As for my Luke belt, I weathered it and really had to take it in again because I dropped another size. I should've waited to put him together but everything presented itself at the time. I might wait till the end of Summer now to complete him.

Now I'm off to look for Endor fabric.

Hello, my name is Mr. Pickles and I'm a Starwars-holic.
Welcome, Mr. Pickles.
Thank-you for having me. Laughing

New here to the rebellegion.com and this is my very first post. I've been around the on-line Star Wars fan community since the dawn of the Prequels and am a member over at rebelscum.com, sideshowcollectors.com & millenniumfalcon.com under this same username. Over on the Jedi Council boards, gentlegiantcollectors.com & statueforum.com I go by the moniker 'WitchKing73'. So like the village bicycle, I've been around...lol. It's an honor to meet so many passionate fans with a huge degree of detailed knowledge on this particular aspect of our favorite film series.

I'm currently in the beginning stages of putting together a Yavin Luke (Medal Ceremonial) outfit. This site has been a boondoggle of info, so thanks to everyone. This is my first attempt at a 'Formal' status costume & I wanna do it right. Not necessarily to join a group, but to represent our hobby to the general public well.

This is where I'm at in the process: I got the round Tandy belt buckle and belt; the MR yellow jacket; I'm talking to a guy about a custom-made blaster holster; will be getting custom-made black double-breasted shirt & Han Solo ESB pants {I know about the pin-fold in front, riding seam in back, & embroidered bloodstripes}; zipper-less black boots; and am even getting a Luke-esque wig.

Over the past couple of weeks I've been cruisin' around getting familiar with this site and now after looking in every nook and cranny for an answer without success I finally have a question to propose;

I know Luke uses Leia's Defender sporting pistol (The Russian Margolin .22) in the ceremony. But a) I cant find a resin copy anywhere and the MR piece is now going at around $400, b) I frankly do not like this blaster. I find it rather....feminine, no offense to the ladies out there. So my question is, could I still achieve the 'Formal' status if I used a DL-44 blaster instead, if at least temporarily? (I have both an ANH Han & an ESB Luke versions.) Now, I would also point out that the DL-44 is the blaster that was used with the Hasbro figure as well. Also, even though he doesn't where it in the actual ceremony (dumb!), I'm thinking of putting his ANH lightsaber on the other side of the belt. Luke did sport it in several publicity shots in this outfit (minus the jacket).

So, whomever is the authority here, can you enlighten me further on my inquiry? Thanks, and again, it's a pleasure to be aboard!

IMO, not having the correct blaster for a face character wouldn't be considered formal. And I got the MR yellow jacket, and think its crap, sorry, so I returned it. I spoke to the fan who previously owned the original prop jacket, and he said the MR jacket is the result of them NOT listening to him.

The Museum Replicas jacket arrived today. I was actually expecting much worse after reading a few negative opinions on it. Sure I agree, it has its' faults, but mine fits my body so good it's not a deal-breaker for me. NO WAY I woulda paid retail ($275) for it, but for $82 I think it gets the job done. And as I've read in this very forum, despite its' shortcomings, it's officially licensed/sanctioned and thus adhering to the requirements for 'Formal' status. A little steam, ironing, starch & maybe spray-on shine and it'll look alright for my Halloween costume purposes. But yeah, I agree, a more shiny-look with different materials probably would've made it tons better.

As far as not having the correct blaster...there really aren't a lot of other options here. Does a Princess Leia ANH costume need her blaster to be considered 'Formal'? Probably not. So why does Yavin Luke require it when he doesn't even take it out of the holster & even Hasbro made the figure with a DL-44 (& lightsaber, btw)? If there was a resin mold of the non-ROTJ Princess Leia version out there, I'd get it. But as stated in my first post, the only other option I've seen is the Master Replicas piece which currently costs more than the entire rest of the costume put together. And using a real Margolin? As it clearly states in the costume standards section concerning blasters...."unless local laws prohibit or strongly discourage carrying anything that looks like a firearm." So I guess 'no blaster' is considered better over 'ever-so-slightly non-canonical' & the EU?

I respect other's opinion on the matter, but the blaster situation is what it is, so the interpretation I will be basing my look off of will be this figure until I can find a more economically viable solution...

I've been in the process of starting this costume (as we discussed on Rebelscum). The standards do not require the blaster, though I would like to have one.

I am going to modify my Museum Replicas jacket. It's a bit puffy for me, and I want to add an inside pocket (if it doesn't have one already... I can't remember).

Hi. Glad to see ya over here as well. Yeah, I'll probably use this thread to update my progress on the costume rather than the one over at rebelscum.

FYI, the MR jacket already has two inside pockets. One is a horizontal opened top pocket that kinda closes with Velcro. The other one (on the other side) is a vertical pocket that has a zipper.

Hey, do you (or anyone else reading this post) know where's a good place is to purchase a pair of pull-up (zipper-less) equestrian riding boots for a reasonable price? Thanks!

EDIT: How about these?

Or even these?

Much better than spending over $200 on MR's. And I'm not convinced those are the correct boots that Hamill wore anyways.

Of the ones you posted, these look the most correct (although it'd be nice to see the back, just to be sure):

According to the size chart, these are women's boots?

Well, I think it's always wise to check out the boots they have for women, as there tends to be far more variety than what is offered for men. My Jedi boots are technically "women's" boots, but they are amazingly tough, high quality, and comfortable. And they look AWESOME. I say, if it works, it works. Cool

Nothing wrong with guys wearing womens boots. Mine are, as I have skinny calves. Its just that when you order, you have to make sure, as the sizings are different than mens.
