I'm just getting started on this, and I've been looking for reference pictures and such. I was reading the costume standards, and I'm wondering about the necklace.

The standards say:

Quote:
Two silver Hana pendant brooches, one at each shoulder with two gray twisted cords draped between them and a silver Hana pendant on a gray twisted double cords.

Now, I'm not sure what a Hana pendant is, but I found the young Mon Mothma in "Dressing a Galaxy" and obtained this to use as a pattern.

The DAG photo clearly shows she is wearing a necklace comprised of three of these medallions: one on each shoulder, and one hanging from the front center of the necklace.

However, on the ROTJ version, it does not appear that she is wearing the same, flat medallion on her shoulders, but instead a round top pin that looks almost like a domed button.

I'm having difficulty seeing the shoulders, does anyone have a better screenshot? (My DVDs are all in storage Crying or Very sad )

I don't want to make the wrong thing... I want to be accurate, but also to meet the costume standards.

Any suggestions?

As a judge for the Commanders, I will accept anything that is close for those shoulder brooches....or whatever they are called.

Personally, I have never seen a better photo of Mon Mothma than the one you already referenced above....so I don't think you will be able to get any better of a reference on them.

but..
I could be wrong...

You might want to check with a few of the other Mothmas and ask them what they used.

Maybe these pics of my chains pendant combo can help. Btw the pendant of Episode VI is different to that of the young Mon Mothma.

I've used domed silver colored buttons.

That looks awesome, Claudia, thank you so much for posting the pictures.

The button with the cording wrapped around it looks exactly as I was thinking. Your pendant looks very accurate, too.

Very Happy

Here's my version. I used silver Sculpy clay, or maybe it was Fimo. I used domed buttons with a filagree design for the shoulders. Lots of silver colored (but not glittery silver) cording from the drapery department of Joann's. It doesn't show, but there's a single cord that goes around behind the neck.

I glued the cording and buttons to a circle of plastic. Neodymium magnets are glued to the underside, and washers from the hardware store are sewn into the shoulders.

Make sure the washers cling tightly to the magnets! Not all metal is created equal. I wanted stainless steel washers, but they don't stick very well. So I got the ones that stick best and just hand baste them into the dress so I can remove them for washing.

The chain has a small safety pin at each end that sticks to the magnet. Not the best solution, but I'm still looking for a better way. Very Happy

I just noticed this and presume you have it finished. I just redid my shoulder broaches last year to make them more accurate. I found a better reference. If you want to redo them let me know.
