I have a question about painting an x-wing helmet. I didn't want to do a recognizable helmet, but a generic one based on my personality. The question is; if you do own, should it have the smoky visor or can it have the amber?

So far as I know, there seems to be no hard and fast rule about visor color, DH built mine with a black visor and the Costume judges have had no complaints thus far.

Dark or amber visors are acceptable, so you can use whichever one you like better.

I've got a smokey grey visor on mine and I'm the pilot DCO and LCJ if that tells you anything. Amber is generally the go-to default color though.

Both colors are used on screen. The smoke color is the original version and can be seen in the briefing and hangar scenes. The amber visors were created for the close-up shots in the fighter cockpits (filmed after the hangar scenes) so the actor's faces could be more easily seen by the audience.
