Is anyone else looking into doing this costume? Smile

After a mishap at a recent troop, I've decided to create this costume as a quick and easy way to cover up the Slave Bikini while still remaining canon.
It's also a great way to keep warm in colder weather!
So far I've found some goggles that can be modified to match it, and am on the hunt for suitable fabric for the poncho and hood Smile

Very Happy Hello there,
glad I am not on my own, lol
I also have got some Brown lensed & all Black ski goggles
has in the deleted scenes they do look black
& some sun glasses with wide sides/ear peices to mod the goggles with, hopefully that will work
have found some light/medium weight wool mix type fabric
in a beige colour which I think could look good in texture
but I do think it will have to go quite a bit darker to look the part,
& also mixed my own colour fabric paint
to do them boarders on the blanket,
but that is as far as Ive got at the mo,
but when you look at all the deleted scene clips
something is telling me they used two styles of blanket during filming
by the way the blanket fits on leia in certain shots & its shape,
I have some screen caps & other still scenes plus fabrics & goggles
http://s227.photobucket.com/albums/dd295/katapuma/sandstorm%20deleated%20scenes/
Will post up more pics has I progress with it lol Very Happy
here is an extra pic showing the fabric & goggles I intend to use

here are three more showing why I think two styles of blanket were used during the filming of the scenes
take a closer look at pic no3 the back of the blanket is more of a snug fitting
compared with the other two pics

the Black Goggles & snug fitting front shot

Looks like they may have used different goggles as well. From the picture on the action figure card, it appears that Leia is wearing WWII style pilots goggles.

But from the last pic on the bottom, it looks like they are larger and more like the ski type glasses...

Also, from that pic on the card, it looks just like the Obi Wan wool robe or at least the same type of material..

The head bit looks like it's fitted- a bit like a snood (as I think they're called).

Also noticed there's a striped section at the bottom, but on the pic below, it doesn't look like it goes all the way around?:

Very Happy yes Suzi,
there is a inner hood that is close fitting
also a different shade to the rest of the blanket
& your right about the boarder stripes Very Happy
they start in the near middle of the back all along the right hand side
of the costume in that pic.
The hard part of this is finding an easy way to get the wrap style look
with no seams showing & without having yards of fabric to fight with
when trying to get ready for a troop Laughing
I can see the idea of doing this in sections & the use of a very short
matching undertunic to attach it all to, comming into play here. Laughing Very Happy
If you look very closely at the first pic of han walking next to leia
the boader stripes look like it is comming down the left hand side
which is another reason I say the possiblity of two blanket styles were used during filming.
also the bottom pic of leia & han if they was to have their backs to you
it would look like it was on the left hand side Smile
in the link in my first post there are a couple more pics that show the
boaders on the right side & funny enough they are standing near the
falcon in all of them, (two blankets) erm!! yes me thinks lol Very Happy

I am interested in this costume as well, and I am glad that others are talking about it and trying to figure it out!

Can anyone get screencaps off the Blu-ray (and for Luke too)?

Very Happy Hi Matt
it is very difficult to get clear shots of the costumes
a couple of my pics in the link on my first post are off the blue ray,
hence they are not clear due to the nature of the scene
but I shall ask my friend if he could do some for you
& hope they come out ok
Very Happy I will post a link to them here or PM link to you Very Happy

the third pic down kinda looks like a sarape blanket to me, which would make sense considering it was the 70's and where they were filming at.

I think it's an interesting costume and if I ever decide to do a Slave Leia it will definitely be the sandstorm version. Cool

I bought the figure at my local comic book shop a couple months back with plans to put something together for celebration. This thread has motivated me to get moving on it!

I too like the idea of having a cover-up for troops and it would also be great to wear when walking to the photoshoot at D*C so I don't get stopped a dozen times.

The figure has quite a different outfit to what we see on the Blu-ray, (missing the cowl hood, and isn't quite so long), but I actually prefer the way the figure looks.

Does anyone else think they'll attempt this version?

I'd like to, but have any RL standards been set for it yet?

Standards have not been written for this costume yet, but I do see this happening in the near future.
