For anyone currently making or wanting to make this costume - I have found a wonderful pattern for the pants - They have the four seams down the legs and with some tweaking you can make them non-stirrup...though stirrup would help with the pants riding up. View A...

This is an OOP pattern but it's still out there. This is the best I've found so far and could save you quite a bit over having them custom made...

So, I'm in the process of having this costume live up to the standards, so that I can have it approved. I need two things: The hair style, and the seems on the leggings.

I have a regular pair of maternity leggings, that I use since they fit the pillow nicely Smile But any tips on how to "add" seams to them? Any way to make it look good?

Also, any ideas on how to do the hair style? I'm short-haired, so I'll have to use a wig - and I'm guessing some sort of extensions for the "buns"?

Do they have to be eight figured (I think the standards say so)? Or would it work with "just" two fake buns attached next to the braid?

Ideas anyone? Smile

On the pants, I'd recommend folding the fabric in the spot where you want the seam to be and sew right along the fold. Sew the fold on the inside, then it will look like a seam on the outside.

Does anyone have any good wig advice? I'm getting crazy. Twice now I've ordered a wig on ebay and found out that it had bangs - not like full bangs, but those half lenght that are brushed to the side and gets in the way of doing a nice, decent braid. I want a straight, long wig! Please, I need help Sad

I know when I bought my Leia wig I did search ebay for "long straight wig, no bangs" and there was basically one option out there.

yeah, and I've found that even though you make that search, you can end up with and unusable wig (as the one I just received in the mail) Evil or Very Mad

amphigory carries long bangless wigs in various styles. Though I'm not sure if I'd go with something too long. Just long enough to pull back and make anchors for the extensions you will need to add to make the rest of the hair style. Dealing with long wigs is a PAIN and I try to do that as little as possible by using shorter wigs with extensions as often as possible.

My idea was to pull the hair back and make a braid, and then possibly make the two "buns" with extensions attached to the wig in the back. I have no idea if it would work, though. All my wigs are long, so....I'm kinda used to that Smile

I'll check what brand mine is. I know it's Color #4 - which is a nice darker brown. I bought it at a wig shop here in Nashville but I'm pretty sure it's a recognizable brand. I also used a pack of Yaki braiding hair for the part at the back. I will let you know.

Also mine is different as it has wefts on the side and I sewed a couple of combs in the front to help with pulling it back into a ponytail and not show too much hairline.

Also, all different views on how to make the hairstyle would be greatly appreciated. I thought about making a braid with the wig, and then attaching extensions shaped in the "bun shape" to the wig - much as you'd do with Leia's buns. Could this be done? Any thoughts?

I bought a wig and made buns and a braid out of it, but it just looked too fake. So, now I use my own hair to make the "figure 8" buns and put an extension braid between the buns. I don't have a good picture of it though, sorry.

Here's a detail of the back of Padmé's hair from Padawan's Guide: http://www.padawansguide.com/padme3/sleeveless/crop1.jpg

yeah, but as I tend to have rather short hair, I doubt using my own hair will ever work Sad Wish wigs were easier to deal with!

You could make an attachment for the back of your hair that would create the figure 8 buns and the braid. Or isn't your hair long enough to put into even a small [hide-able] ponytail? Or, you could try a wig from eBay and style it yourself. I got mine from a company in China and the price was very reasonable.
