Name of Event: Anime St. Louis Convention
Event Begins: Fri, Apr 20, 2012 12:00 pm
Event Ends: Sun, Apr 22, 2012 05:00 pm
Location of Event:
Gateway Center
One Gateway Drive
Collinsville, IL 62234
http://animestl.net/

We have been asked to return to the AnimeSTL convention again this year by the Staff. The setup will be much the same as we had last year. We will have an area big enough for a couple tables, jail, and a photo area. I've asked for the same location if possible as well. Also the changing rooms will be available to us again with keys to lock everything up. There is no limit on the on the amount of passes to be given out for troops and also possible for family members within reason.

We've been asked to do at least two or more panels at the convention. One suggestion is a basic costuming panel that will be basic, but focus in our processes. I would be open to ideas on other panels that can be presented to the convention. Another I was thinking on would be an introduction to the groups that is done at many other conventions. We need to have the panels submitted for approval by the end of the month.

They have also asked for any volunteers that would submit for the date auction. The rules on how that works can be found here: http://animestl.net/programming/date-auction/

Will there be a place for troopers to change? Yes, locked changing room.

Will there be a secure place for troopers to store their storage tubs while trooping the event? Yes, locked changing room.

Will family/friends be allowed to attend the event? Yes

Are cameras allowed and can we take pictures at the event? Yes

Are weapons allowed on the costumes? Yes

Is there a special place to park at the event? Does parking cost? Public parking/ No cost

If appropriate, can we have a table with flyers and information about the Rebel Legion/Dantooine Base? Yes

Are 501st/Mando Merc costumed members requested too? Yes

How many costumed members are requested? 10+

Will lodging be provided by the local troopers for garrison members traveling a great distance? Can be if needed. There is also con hotel information on their website.

Update on the panels:

Makeup and Prosthetics: Saturday 11a-12p

Meet the 501st/RL: Sunday 2-3p

Star Wars Costuming 101: Sunday 3-4p

Wish we could have gotten all Saturday slots, but what we have to work with. Could use some more folks for Sunday as the coverage is pretty thin to do the booth and panels.

On Registration/Tickets: All folks working the booth/panels get in for free. You don't need to do anything except show up and get a badge from me.

UPDATE 4/15

We have 20 weekend passes total for the group. More may be provided, but that is the pre-defined amount set aside right now.

We will be starting Friday with setup between 12-1pm. The convention opens up at 3pm and goes to midnight, but we will likely close the table up between 8-9pm.

Saturday we will start table setup at 9am with the convention opening at 10am. Our first panel of the convention will be at 11am with Makeup and Prosthetics. Again we will run the table until likely 8-9pm that day.

Sunday we will start around 9am with a 10am opening time. We have two panels in a row from 2pm-4pm with Meet the Groups followed by Star Wars Costuming 101. As soon as the panels are over we'll be closing up the booth as the con is over at 5pm.

We will have a pretty large amount of space for the convention. The jail, a large backdrop, and three tables with one in the back for display. I'll have a 501st and RL banner for the table. Also providing a few helmets and some weapons for the table. If you have anything prop wise you would like to display please bring it. We will need examples as well for the panel on Sunday. Also make sure to bring your binders for the jail n' bail if you have them. We should have a few pairs for it as well.

Updates are still needed to the schedule so please provide if possible.

I will submitting the panels on Sunday 2/26 for the convention. Anyone signing up for the date auction will need to have their application sent in by 2/28 as well.

I'll also be bringing the RL banner, RL Fliers, bunch of props for both sides, and a cooler. We'll need a 501st banner and there should be plenty of room for other props and signage that people would like to bring.

All the proceeds generated by the jail n' bail, date auction, item auction (feel free to donate items to be sold if you'd like), and any other donations brought in will go to the convention's charity that has not yet been decided.

Quick update on the panels.

We've submitted to have three panels between Saturday and Sunday (none Friday). If all are approved there will be the following:

1. Meet the SW Groups - Basic run down of how the 501st and Rebel Legion mission, events, how to join, and other general knowledge. I would like to have as many of us attending the panel with minimal staff at the table during the time. I would also like to take volunteers to help speak on this, but can do it solo if needed.

2. Costumes, Armor and Props - A discussion about creating costumes, armor, and props based on materials, techniques, tools, skills, etc. I would love to get well experienced members with building armor, prop making and skilled in sewing. I know a few people I'd like to hit up to help with that panel that are well suited.

3. Makeup and Prosthetics - Demonstrations on using makeup, stencils, prosthetics, and other materials to enhance your costumes. If planning works out for Saturday morning Chad will be up Darth Maul during the demonstration. If not he will go over the basis of how he does airbrushing, stencils, etc. Tim Bremer will be showing a video and demonstrations on life casts, prosthetic parts and other makeup.

We have a pretty good list of folks started and still plenty room for more on any day. Could definitely use more on Friday and Sunday.

Hey I'd love to help with the panels but we're out of town the weekend before this, we won't be able to travel two in a row.

If I can get my stuff together and gain even pending membership I might look at coming to this one. Is it just the RL and 501st going to this event? (wasn't sure how much involvement the mercs have over on that side of the state.)

There are a couple Mandos here, but they rarely participate with anything going on here. They were at AnimeSTL and Archon last year, but no booth ore anything. I don't have contact information for them either.

Slackers. LOL If I go to this one (which I'm really really tempted to go) I'll have to figure out what all I want to ware for that con and when. I think my mando armor would show up there at least at some point. Need to get on working on my binder cuffs and collar.

Let me know which day the costuming panel will be and I'll try to ask off at least one day for this. Smile May try to throw together a new tunic set in time for that to have the old one up for display. I definetly want to listen to Chad's panel on the make-up, I needs to improve mine!

Well this might be even more reason to try to make, I would finally get to meet the mysterious Vera and her costuming glory, maybe even pick up a tip or two. Wink

I asked for Chad's for sure to be on Saturday and really hoping most of them will be. I need to follow up with my contact to see if anything has been set yet and start kicking things in gear as we are only a few weeks out. It would be awesome if you both can make it. Very Happy

I missed the early pre-reg cause my work computer said the reg page had "porn" on it. I hate the filters on this thing and getting ready for PCC. Sad
