This is frustrating! 0 out of 2. Both swaches are no good, one too dark, the other... simply, no comment.

I'll concentrate on the actual dress and when the time comes for the velvet robe, then and only then I'll star to worry about the velvet.

If you find a good match, let me know! I've seen some places with custom shades of velvet, but I think it's enormously expensive.

Finding the right shade and pile is certainly a challenge!

The link doesn't work for me, but I'm excited to see what you've found!

I may be buying a home-decorating velvet I found at a local shop, depending on how it drapes. It won't have as nice a sheen as a silk velvet, but it does have a very nice, thick pile.

I don't know if this is the right kind of gold, but here's a silk velvet: http://www.syfabrics.com/View.aspx/Plush-Silk-Velvet-54--Wide/Gold-Silk-Velvet-54-Wide/5388/529 You can order a swatch for $1 I believe.

Or, http://www.syfabrics.com/View.aspx/Plush-Silk-Velvet-44--Wide/Yellow-Gold-Silk-Velvet/389/263

Or cotton velvets in gold and mustard:

http://www.syfabrics.com/View.aspx/100--Cotton-Med-Light-Weight-Velvet/Gold-Cotton-Velvet-56-/4395/258

http://www.syfabrics.com/View.aspx/100--Cotton-Med-Light-Weight-Velvet/Mustard-Cotton-Velvet-56-/4396/258

Though, cotton doesn't drape nearly as nicely as silk.

I've ordered several swatches from syfabrics, and thus far, nothing's quite right. Either it's too upholstery-like, or the color's too light/dark/brown, or...

Smile

Still hopeful, though! And I can't say for sure if any of those are one's I've got samples for.

Actually, after digging through stuff, I did try the second of the two silk velvets, but it was too gold. That top one looks promising, though...

Let us know how it works. I think at a certain point, you just have to go with "as close as possible" and content yourself, or you'll drive yourself crazy! lol

This is the velvet I found

This is the fabrics I had

Thay may look diferent in photos but they're literally the same color.

They look like in this picture

I did a trial with an extra fine red sharpie to see if it works to draw the red design. haven't washed the the test swatch to see if the color runs.
It's a permanent marker, it shouldn't run, right?

My sewing maching is skiping stitches with the dress fabric. Had the same problem with the old machine. Changed the needles and nothing, adjusted the thred tension, etc. ... nothing, it keeps skiping stitches.

I'm turning Sith with this problem!!

It sounds like the needle is not going through the fabric if it's skipping like that. Are you using a sharp thin needle (like 10 or 12)? You may also need a ball point needle.

Also keep in mind that that bottom photo is blown out color-wise.

Ignore the blurry, but this is the dress up close without flash:

Here's one of Kay-Dees from a different angle, where the lighting wasn't as harsh:

I noticed in the movie, the color of the entire outfit is darker than what I have, it's more like an orange yellow while I have more of a golden yellow, but it's the only pleated fabric I found that looks like the dress.
And I've been looking for quite looooong for that fabric. Perhaps I could dye it later on, but I would need some good quality dyes and do some testings. I have never dyed a fabric.
