After finishing a Hoth Snowspeeder Pilot and Ep 1 Naboo Pilot, I decided to focus on a couple of Alliance Officers.

I do plan to make both a Rebel Fleet Officer from ANH and an Endor Officer like Crix Madine.

Anyway, I began as I usually do...taking stock of what I have and what I need for the Rebel Fleet Officer.

I already have the helmet, boots and belt (but need the oval buckle).

The jacket and pants will be a "from scratch" endeavor and this time I intend to try to make something that acutally fits a woman.

So many of my costumes are just men's pieces....
BDU pants, flightsuits, vests, shoes, boots...etc.
but the jacket for this first Commander costume will be cut from a woman's pattern with some of the seaming and darts.

I chose this pattern after looking through all of the books..

http://mccallpattern.mccall.com/m6172-products-11287.php?page_id=115

The one thing that will be difficult about this pattern is making that lapel one piece instead of an upper and lower piece.....I may have to continue to search for a different pattern after looking at some of the instructions on this pattern.

Also, my first fabric search was a waste of time.
I want to stick to 100% cotton..
so really...
choices are few..

I settled on a bottomweight twill...
found a nice dark brown for the yoke detail..
but there was not enough light khaki for the jacket and pants at the Joanne's I was at...so the clerk called around to a couple other Joannes...
no soap...
so...now I am fabric searching.

I did find a nice dark brown shirt on-line to make into the bibbed shirt..

http://www.amazon.com/Biagio-COTTON-CHOCOLATE-BROWN-Dress/dp/B004TIEWGM/ref%3dsr_1_36?s=apparel&ie=UTF8&qid=1328180285&sr=1-36

none of the local places like Kohls or JC Penney had dark brown shirts...
so..
those shirts will have to wait to be ordered until the budget allows.

Anyway..
tips
screen captures and
"what I used"
are always encouraged..

I will post updates as I make some progress past the "what I need and what I have" stage..

I´m also looking for material to make the Madine uniform.

So I asked Jolee Bindo from Germany what material he used.
He took a fabric called "Gabardine" which is original used for military uniforms. I tried to find some of this fabric here - no chance. And I don´t want to order fabric in the net...

So I decided to use some "Köper"/ twill fabric my local sewing shop offers.
Next step will be to create some paterns for the uniform jacket and pants.
But I don´t know when I will have some time left for this...

When I start working i will keep you updated...

Always good to see more ANH Fleet Officers around Smile

I believe I bought my two brown shirts from Target, though I'm sure Kohl's or another store would have them, too.

I made this Crix Madine for a base mate:

http://www.rebellegion.com/forum/costume.php?mode=view&c=4634

For his I used woolcrepe fabric that I had left over from a Jedi costume I made.

I also made a similar jacket for another person from my base who is working on a General Lando and I used Trigger fabric (in khaki color).
Trigger has been discontinued...but has been replaced by "Target" which is also available in Khaki...

I don't think that the "Target" fabric is as good as the old "Trigger" was...
you might be able to still find "khaki Trigger" on-line...

here is some:
http://www.onlinefabricstore.net/trigger-fabric/trigger-khaki-fabric-.htm

yeah..

fabric searching stinks..

Crying or Very sad

Hehe, this Crix Madine is one of my references...
Did you use some "vlies"(?) inside to make it more stiff, or is it only the woolcrepe?
I´m going to reinforce the fabric from the inside (with this here called vlies-fabric) for getting a real uniform look...well, thats the plan...

And its always funny how different things are called...for me a trigger is only the thing you use for firing a weapon. And a target....

But the link was very helpful anyway, thank you!

The capped sleeves and front facing of Crix's costume were reinforced with a heavyweight fuseable interfacing...

but that was it....

Thanks you!

What pattern did you use for the Madine jacket?
I think some normal business suit pattern without sleeves could work for this, of course with some velcro for closing...

I currently have no home phone, television or internet...
I do hope to have internet back at home by the weekend..

but..
not having any of these things at home (I am stealing a little computer time at work...)
has given me some extra time to sew...

here is the Rebel Commander jacket ...
needs hemming and the pockets...
and it is done..

pants will be done soon too...just have to put the stripe on those...

To those who have done this costume..
did you purchase your rank badge or make it?

I know from experience of trying to make a decent Imperial Officer rank badge...that it ..
well..
ends up looking homemade...
so I ended up purchasing a new Officer badge..

so I would like to purchase the Rebel version..

Well...being I have no television, internet or phone at home anymore...
I have lots of extra time to work on this costume.

I got REALLY lucky yesterday in finding two dark brown shirts to modify..
if you are at all thinking of making this costume...
get yourself to a Kohl's!

I had tried several stores looking for dark brown shirts...and found none..
my last stop was going to be Kohls. I searched through everything and found nothing until my eye caught a bunch of shirts on clearance...and I was able to find two dark brown ones....
these were $40.00 shirts...and I got them for $6.40 each!

Anyway..
the shirt and buckle are all that remains to be done.

I could not really find anyone selling rank badges....so I made one with some left over brushed aluminum from my R2D2 and used some pearl buttons painted with a pearl blue translucent paint...mounted the aluminum over a piece of thicker sintra and...for now ...it will be ok...
I did polish the aluminum a bit after I took the photos below.

So:

Jacket - "Lt. Khaki" bottomweight twill - Joanne Fabrics
Jacket yoke - "Potting Soil" bottomweight twill - Joanne Fabrics
Pants - "Lt. Khaki" bottomweight twill - Joanne Fabrics
Pant stripe - 2" wide dk brown grossgrain ribbon
Shirts - Arrow shirt in "Mahogany" color
Boots - pair of Jedi boots I never used for Jedi
Helmet - already had
Belt - Range tan dyed 1 3/4" belt blank - Tandy leather
Buckle - modifying a Tandy leather rectangular buckle blank
Rank Badge- hand made with brushed aluminum mounted to sintra with translucent paint over a small pearl button.
